Alexis Sanchez finally breaks the silence about his miserable start to life at United

Last week we talked about how the media and Manchester United greats had taken up arms against the underperforming Alexis Sanchez after the round of 16 exit in the Champions League against Sevilla.  And they were in the right to criticize the young Chilean winger, the club did spend an astronomical sum in recruiting him from the Gunners. At the last count, with the addition of sponsors, Alexis earns close to £650,000 a week and with that figure comes an expectation of greatness. But his outing with the Red Devils so far has been a damp squib. Alexis only managed to score once in United colours, during the teams win over Huddersfield and has been incredibly lackluster in his displays for the Red Devils after that, leading to his name being dropped from the team’s FA Cup win over Brighton. Now after widespread criticism for his performances, ahead of the international matches Sanchez spoke about his struggle at adjusting to his new surroundings stating that :

‘As I am self-demanding, I expected something better,’ he said. ‘The change of club was something that was very abrupt. It was the first time I’ve changed clubs in January but many things have happened in my life that are difficult.’

Morever the Chilean reportedly eats alone and doesn’t social with his teammates. According to the former Arsenal coach and Irish International – Liam Brady, Sanchez is one of those players who does his own thing. It’s not a big surprise that he doesn’t play well with his teammates.
At Arsenal, he was just a young lad who outperformed everyone and carried the game on his shoulders. But now, he has this huge pay package on his back and with that comes certain expectations about the player from both the fans and the team.  The manager, however, feels that we can only see the best performance from the lad next season when his position has been finalized. At Manchester United right now, we have a unique problem, with too many talented players who covet the same left wing. Marital and Rashford have been competing for the position since before Alexis entered the picture. Alexis is at his most natural playing from the left and creating chances into the center or he needs to be played in the center to convert opportunities into goals, something that is carried out by only Lukaku at this juncture. He could be played alongside Pogba and McTominay, whom the manager had praised after United drew Sevilla in the first leg of their Champions Leauge draw. The problem with United, for now, is that they have no reliable right winger or center forward who can assist either Lukaku or Pogba. The team has to rely on the guile and imagination of Pogba to create opportunities.   All eyes are now on the manager to figure out what he wants to do next and how best can he accommodate his new shiny toy of £650,000 a week so that he actually starts doing what he is being massively paid to do.
