Arsenal agree deal to sell Alex Oxlade Chamberlain to rivals

Chamberlain, Arsenal, Liverpool

According to reports in England from Sky Sports News, Arsenal have agreed a fee to sell Alex Oxlade Chamberlain to rivals Chelsea.

Chamberlain who will become a free agent at the end of this season has reportedly refused to put pen to paper on fresh terms after a meeting with club executive Ivan Gazidis and Arsene Wenger last week.

The England International has long coveted a central midfield role in the team and an apparent refusal to play the player in his favored position by the manager has seen him grow disillusioned with his role in the team.

Alex Oxlade Chamberlain has previously been linked with Liverpool also but now seems set to remain in London albeit with rivals Chelsea

Sky Sports news understands that the player who is currently with the England squad in St George’s park will undergo a major part of his medical there itself if the deal goes through for a reported fee of  £35million.

When asked about assurances about the player’s future at the Emirates Wenger seemed unable to provide certainty and had this to say :

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]

“That’s not the kind of question I can answer after a game like that. I think we are focused on the game, what will happen on the transfer market in the next three to four days I don’t know.”

[/perfectpullquote]

Such comments from the boss certainly does not bode well regarding the future of Alex Oxlade Chamberlain at the club, a player whom Wenger holds in high regards and has previously stated an ardent desire to retain him at the club and build a team around a bright and exciting player such as him.

[spacer height=”30px”]

While he may yet continue to divide opinions among the fanbase specially now after the recent drubbing at Anfield, the fact that ever since switching to a back three and operating him at wing back Wenger has certainly managed to bring out the best in him.

[spacer height=”30px”]

His undeniable quality and versatility has been aided by his ability to dribble past defenders with ease something which for me makes it clear that the player to have benefited most after switching to the new system is none other than Alex Oxlade Chamberlain.

[spacer height=”30px”]

This makes his desire to leave all that and start afresh in a central midfield role makes it all the more puzzling for me. The fact that he seems unwilling to sign a new contract because hes being played out of position in his mind makes this contract standoff all the more baffling for me.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Be as it may if the departure of a player of his quality does come to fruition specially now that we are finally getting to see the best of him after seeing him struggle for years to discover his best position, it will certainly turn the fans against the club board and manager even more so if not enough all ready.

[spacer height=”30px”]

It will almost certainly leave us short in the wing back position in terms of personal and quality something i surely hope the manager or the board does not want after the gruesome start to the season that we have had.

Till the next time

Come on you Gooners !!!!!
