Arsenal’s Brilliant Last Ditch Plan to Resolve Their Massive Defensive Crisis is Signing This London Team’s Captain

Arsenal make loan offer for Gary Cahill

Arsenal are all set to make an emergency offer for out of favor Chelsea defender Gary Cahill. The Gunners recently suffered a twin injury blow in Friday’s FA cup loss to rivals Manchester United. Sokratis Papastathopoulos and Laurent Koscielny both defenders suffered injuries in an abominable defeat at the Emirates.

Rob Holding and Hector Bellerin have been already ruled out for the remainder of the season. Two more defensive injuries have further rubbed salt to the Arsenal defensive woulds and have left them with little to pick from when naming their back four against Cardiff City tomorrow.

The defensive catastrophe has apparently sounded alarm bells of rather high frequency sirens to the management’s ears. An immediate defensive signing is imperative to the club’s immediate goals and achieving their targets at the end of the season.

And according to reports, in a last minute attempt to salvage their season, Arsenal are apparently on the brink of securing the cast-away Chelsea captain by providing him the game time that he so desperately desires and in return getting an able bodied centre-back to field at the back.

The 33-year-old Englishman fits the bracket perfectly for Arsenal in their current position. He has a rich experience of playing in the Premier League for London rivals Chelsea. Gary Cahill is a solid center back and can be wholeheartedly relied upon, given the exposure he has had playing consistently at the top-level.

Although he has fallen down the pecking order and hasn’t featured much in Sarri’s plans this season, Gary Cahill is a top-level Center Back and can provide that much needed rigidity to the ice-thin Arsenal defense.

Arsenal have a meagre amount of options when it comes to filling in the center back position. Granit Xhaka has regularly played out of position when the need arises. The likes of Stephan Lichtsteiner, Shkodran Mustafi and Konstantinos Mavropanos are unable to provide the X-factor in the team.

With Sokratis Papastathopoulos out until mid-February and Laurent Koscielny absent for an unspecified period of time, it is with desperate urgency that Arsenal must secure a new centre half for the time being irrespective of where that may be from.

If Arsenal aim to return to the Champions League, a tournament where a team of their stature belongs, they have to sort out their transfer budgets and make priority signings before the transfer window closes and players like Gary Cahill are kind of the best choices right now.

A top four finish looks unlikely unless the defensive woes are straightened out. Manchester United meanwhile are hot on their heels, looking to cut the gap as soon as an opportunity arises. With Arsenal vying for the last Champions League spot along with Chelsea and United, they hardly seem the leading contender for spot at the moment and a couple of last ditch but effective signings are exactly what they need asap and loaning Gary Cahill is the first step to doing that.
