Massive Injury Blow For Arsenal Ahead of Everton Clash

Arsenal midfielder Henrikh Mkhitaryan has added to manager Unai Emery’s injury woes by enduring an ankle injury during the 4-2 Europa League victory against Vorskla on Thursday. Despite playing the full 90 minutes, it looks like the Armenian international is set to be assessed and may miss out on the Premier League clash against Everton at home on Sunday.

The 29 years old who joined the London giants in a swap deal from Manchester United last season has been in red-hot form this season with 3 assists and 1 goal in 4 starts. He is set to miss out featuring against The Toffees, the team against whom he bagged a hat-trick of assists in his first start in Arsenal shirt as The Gunners smashed Everton 5-1 at The Emirates back in February.

The mid-fielder insisted on being successful in The Europa League in a post match press conference by explaining the importance of the influence of his gaffer. Mkhitaryan told reporters,

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]

“He [Emery] has won this competition three times and it’s very important for us, for Arsenal, because we’re playing in this competition to win.

We’re not just playing to participate.

It’s very important because if you win then you can get a spot for the Champions League, so we’re trying to win every game and we will see where we get to.”

Mkhitaryan is set to be assessed in the coming days as he adds to the injured players’ list of Laurent Koscielny, Carl Jenkinson, Sead Kolasinac and Ainsley Maitland-Niles. The three full backs are expected to recover by next month while Koscielny continues to recover from an Achilles injury, according to Arsenal.com.

I believe Mkhitaryan is a crucial part of The Gunners’ attack. Capable of creating space and chances to scoring goals himself in big games, the Armenian has given his all irrespective of being used as a playmaker or a winger. Being relegated to the bench since the last 2 Premier League matches is certainly frustrating but justified as it brings in Alexandre Lacazette in the starting XI.

As for the clash against Everton, The Gunners have beaten them 5-2 and 5-1 when they faced them last season. Additionally, with a 4 game winning streak, Unai Emery’s men look all set to grab 3 points.
