Should Arsenal Sell/Loan Beleaguered Squad Players To Make Marquee Signing?

Arsenal

The Arsenal squad has made a steady progress this summer under new head coach Unai Emery. The arrival of experienced Stephan Lichsteiner, Sokratis Papastathopoulos, Bernd Leno and young prospects like Lucas Torriera and Matteo Guendouzi have made the existing squad stronger.[spacer height=”30px”]

Meanwhile, contract extensions of Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny, Calum Chambers, Hector Bellerin, Ainsley Maitland-Niles, Emile Smith Rowe and imminent deal of tying up Alex Iwobi is a sign that this new look Arsenal has a certain plan going into the new Premier League season.[spacer height=”30px”]

On the other hand, the Emirates outfit are also trying to resolve Aaron Ramsey’s contract on high priority.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]With all these signings and contract extensions the Gunners have a big squad to manage on the field as well as on the account books. The Londoners should be trying to loan or sell permanently the likes of David Ospina, Joel Campbell, Danny Welbeck, Lucas Perez and other fringe players.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Arsenal have loaned Takumo Asano to Hannover with a switch from Stuttgart. Jeff Reine-Adelaide has been sold permanently to French club Angers for an undisclosed fee.[spacer height=”30px”]

With long term injury problem the Frenchman’s progress was stalled in senior Arsenal set up and was behind Reiss Nelson and Joe Willock in selection who got ample game time in League cup and European games to establish themselves. Further loan list of the English side is completed by Matt Macey to Plymouth and Kelechi Nwakali to FC Porto with the latter having an option of permanent deal.[spacer height=”30px”]

The club should be looking at trimming this squad further and cashing in by selling other established players. Emery has mentioned that the club are still in market for a high-profile winger with even rumours of swap-deal involving Ramsey for Barcelona’s Ousmane Dembele.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]The Spaniard is very confident of keeping the Welshman at the Emirates so it becomes of utmost importance to sell the beleaguered squad members. Ospina seems to be the 3rd choice goal keeper behind new signing Leno and veteran Petr Cech. The Colombian has been linked with Turkish clubs since his arrival from Nice. Besiktas have made a move for the shot stopper this summer which would earn Arsenal much needed funds for the Winger they want to buy.[spacer height=”30px”]

Joel Campbell is back in training but this might be his last summer at the Colney.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]The North Londoners have loaned Joel Campbell to many clubs and now after the Costa Rican’s loan stints with Villareal, Sporting CP and Real Betis post his Arsenal debut, it seems he would be looking for a permanent deal away from Arsenal.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Welbeck has had inconsistent form, and injuries have not helped him slot a permanent berth in the starting eleven for the Gunners since his arrival from Manchester United in 2014. Emery’s side need to sell before they can secure a marquee signing, and the 27-year old could be one of those to be sold with increasing interest from Everton. With some prime years left on the English forward’s career he would also like to be at a club where he plays regular football.[spacer height=”30px”]

After completing his loan at the Spanish club, Perez is back in training and had been part of Singapore Tour also. Lucas Perez had talks with the new gaffer and is reported to have a role in this new look Arsenal squad.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]The Spanish forward had left for Deportivo La Coruna on loan last summer in search of first team football, Lazio’s interest with $9 million can be a win-win situation for both club and the player.[spacer height=”30px”]

Arsenal are not in any position to accept any deal for their last year’s best player Nacho Monreal with an ambitious inquiry by Real Sociedad. It will be difficult for Arsenal to make a marquee signing if they don’t loan or sell these fringe players. The recruiters at Arsenal have a real job on their hands with just few days left for the transfer deadline day.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Vlad Dragomir, Ryan Huddart, Tafari Moore, Yassin Fortune, Marc Bola and Chiori Johnson all once expected to hit great heights at Arsenal have also been released by the club.[spacer height=”30px”]
