‘Ünder’ Control ? Emery Registers Series Interest Ahead of £47 Million Summer Move For World Class Roma Forward

Unai Emery is eyeing a potential summer move for Roma’s young winger Cengiz Ünder, according to reports.

Emery has set his sights on signing attacking reinforcements in the summer. Arsenal are worryingly short of attacking options at the moment. With Danny Welbeck and Aaron Ramsey leaving the club in the summer, it will only serve to deplete their already low numbers.

As a result, the Gunners have had their scouts working round the clock to unearth some potential gems. Former Head of Recruitment Sven Mislintat’s controversial departure from the club in February was not met with a lot of positivity from the club’s fans. However, the board seem to have a plan in place, and are set to set that plan into motion.

The first step involves appointing a new technical director, and the man destined for the job at the moment seems to be Monchi, who has just left his role as Roma’s Director of Football. If he does make the move to the Emirates, he could potentially bring a very bright young prospect along with him.

Cengiz Ünder is a 21-year-old winger who is starting to make a name for himself at Roma. In his 25 appearances for the Italians so far this term, he has scored six and assisted nine – a pretty impressive tally considering he has not played since January due to an injury lay-off. Arsenal have been on his tail for a while now, and have had scouts keeping a close eye on his development over the course of the season.

If reports in Italian news outlet Calciomercato are to be believed, Arsenal are set to resume their scouting of Ünder once he returns from injury in the coming weeks. The club are reportedly eager to sign him and could make a move in the summer once Monchi’s position at the club has been made official.

The only issue that has been hindering transfer developments for Emery and Arsenal has been their lack of funds. They were so short on cash that they could only afford to bring in loans in January, despite their obvious need for reinforcements when a majority of their first team players were ruled out through injury.

According to reports though, there will be no repeat of such a scenario. Emery has apparently been informed that he will be backed with funds in the summer, and that will undoubtedly be crucial, especially in securing a deal for Ünder. Roma signed the young Turkish winger from Istanbul Basakeshir back in 2017 for a relatively small fee of £12 million. However, they will seek a return of at least triple that amount in order to let him leave.
