Los Angeles Times confirmed the signing of Ibrahimovic by LA Galaxy from Manchester United through a full page advert on their newspaper.

The club released an official statement on Zlatan:

“Manchester United confirms that it has agreed to the termination of Zlatan Ibrahimovic’s contract with immediate effect. Everyone at the club would like to thank Zlatan for his contribution to the team since his arrival and wishes him well for the future.”

Zlatan replied in his own style with a picture of him dressed as God arm wrestling with a Red Devil with the caption reading:

“Great things also come to an end and it is time to move on after two fantastic seasons with Manchester United. Thank you to the club, the fans, the team, the coach, the staff and everybody who shared with me this part of my history. #foreverred

[spacer height=”30px”]

Ibrahimovic joined United on a free transfer from Paris Saint Germain before the start of 16-17 season and went on to score 28 goals in his first season at Old Trafford before an Anterior Cruciate Ligament injury cut short his season. This ACL injury puts any player’s career at risk but Zlatan is not any player.

[spacer height=”30px”]

The Swede did make a comeback and managed to score a goal this season. But a major injury at such stage of his career meant, he was just a shadow of a player he used to be. The recurrence of his injury sidelined him again.

Here are few things which only Zlatan could…

[spacer height=”30px”]

1) Banter with Eric Cantona.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Zlatan announced after leaving PSG for United

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”

I came like a king, I left like a legend.”

To which Cantona replied:

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]

“There can only be one King in Manchester. You can be the Prince if you want to”.

[/perfectpullquote]

[spacer height=”30px”]

Ibrahimovic cheekily replied:

[spacer height=”20px”]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]”

“I admire Cantona. And I heard what he said. But I won’t be King of Manchester. I will be God of Manchester.”

2) First and long lasting impression

[spacer height=”30px”]

Imagine being a 35 yr old striker playing your first match for United- a friendly against Galatasray, some nerves to settle right? Well Zlatan knows only one thing, to be Zlatan and score spectacular goals. He did the same, 3 minutes into match and he scores a scissors!

[spacer height=”30px”]

3) Match winner and savior

[spacer height=”30px”]

Out of 28 goals he scored last season, 16 of those ensured United either win or draw the match. This includes a header against rivals Liverpool to equalize in the Premier League and a crucial winner against Zorya Luhansk and a hat-trick against his French opponents Saint Ettiene helping United progress in the Europa League.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Whenever United needed someone to step up, Zlatan was their go to man. It’s safe to say he was an impact player.

[spacer height=”30px”]

4) Zlatan: Big match player

[spacer height=”30px”]

When United signed Zlatan, they not only brought in quality, but the hunger, desire and most importantly winning mentality to United. There is absolutely no doubt that he was a big match player- winner against Leicester for Community Shield and two goals including a winner against Southampton in League Cup final ensured United of silverware.
