Ahead of the international break where England face Italy and Holland in a couple of friendly fixtures, Arsenal fans will be ecstatic with the performance of their team in the engrossing 3-1 against AC Milan in UEFA Europa league
Moving into the quarter finals, Wenger will be hoping that the team maintains their consistent results and in the process allow him to breathe more comfortably at Emirates amidst the constant scrutiny and uncertainty around his future given the recent results during the last couple of weeks.
Along with Wenger, Jack Wilshere was one of those who was watched very closely in the round of 16 match. As the wait for his contract renewal at Arsenal waits, there is a silver lining to this cloud.
Going according to the reports
, Gareth Southgate has included the talented midfielder in the 23-man England squad for the upcoming friendlies against Netherlands and Italy, in the upcoming week.
Wilshere had last made his appearance in the English National team against Iceland where they faced a disappointing defeat in Euro Cup 2016 forcing their exit from the tournament.
Since then, Wilshere has suffered through a series of setbacks and difficulties which included numerous injuries which have hampered not only his fitness but also his form to a huge extent and in the process excluding him from the England National team fold for a almost a year and a half.
But after the rejuvenating loan spell at Bournemouth, where the England International gained his old charisma and form which he had longed for since he had been plagued by his lengthy injury spell on the sidelines for almost a year, Wilshere has gradually risen to showcase
some of the best football hes ever played in an Arsenal shirt and since his arrival from Bournemouth, Wilshere has displayed those skills for which he was once proclaimed as the most promising English youngster.
Talking about his contract renewal and England return
, Gunners Boss has claimed to receive “positive vibes”
about the prospect young central midfielder has showcased off lately. Arsene Wenger is pretty sanguine about Wilshere’s return to the English team and when asked if he thinks Wilshere is likely to get called up, Wenger said :
“I hope he’s in the squad, “The vibes I get are positive. I believe he has a good chance but we leave that to Gareth Southgate.”
However having made the squad for the games against Italy and Holland, it is now upto Gareth Southgate and his performances between now and the end of the season which will decide his ticket to Russia with the National Squad.
At the same time, when asked about the future of Wilshere’s future at Emirates. Wenger was hopeful of him staying at Arsenal, but he specified that it’s upto him what he decides and the French Boss will definitely have no say in that decision.
“On my side, nothing has changed,” Wenger told a news conference when asked about the negotiations. “I don’t know [if he’ll stay], but Jack will be free at the end of the season. We [have made] a proposal to him, I want him to stay and my desire is to see him linked to the club for the future. I hope he will do it.”
The chances of staying for the long serving midfielder are looking exceedingly less, with the new offer contract of £90,000-a-week , this figure can go upto £110,000-a-week salary with all the performance related incentives added.
But still this amounts to very low, going by what Wilshere expects. But he must be well aware that this current offer is hampered by his injuries and decline in his form.
Moreover, authorities at Arsenal would admit the fact that their wage structure has been meticulously tampered around by deals with Mesut Ozil
along with Pierre Emerick Aubameyang
and Henrikh Mkhitaryan notably who are the three highest paid players in the squad now.
Therefore, it all depends on how things span out between Jack Wilshere and Arsenal. And it will be interesting to see what time has in store for us and the English midfielder.
