Leicester 3-1 Arsenal : Everything that happened at the game and Arsene’s message for the singing Leicester Fans

Leicester, Leicester City Vs Arsenal, Arsene Wenger

The Gunners make it 7 defeats in a row on the road for the first time since 1966. The game ended 3-1 in favor of the hosts as Leicester defeated 10 man Arsenal, for the first time in 23 meetings since 1994.

[spacer height=”30px”]

This made it 13 losses in 18 away games, this season. To further highlight how poor The North London side’s away form has been, The Gunners have failed to win any away match, since the turn of the new year(2018).

That said, anyone who missed the game yesterday, inspite of the result, missed an end to end action packed spectacle.

Why Allegri is the Brilliant and the Natural choice to Replace the Irreplaceable Arsene Wenger and what Wenger thinks of him

[spacer height=”30px”]

It was one of those games that any neutral would have thoroughly enjoyed, especially given the circumstance that was unfolding.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Leicester City were at their very best on the night, hitting the Gunners on the counter with reckless abandon, whilst The Gunners kept the foot on the gas from kick off.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Having failed to deal with an ominous corner, The Gunners found themselves a goal down from a composed finish, inside the 6 yard box by Nigerian International Kelechi Iheanacho.

[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]

This was against the run of play and must have felt like a sucker punch ? for The Gunners. So much so, that just a minute after, Arsenal youngster and fan favourite, Konstatinos Mavropanos hesitated on the ball, got charged down by Kelechi Iheanacho again and had no choice but to pull him down by the shorts, which led to a straight red ? card for the youngster.

[spacer height=”30px”]

This was barely 15 minutes into the game. Off went Welbeck and in came Skhodran Mustafi, who was slot into a four man defence in a tactical change by the box.

[spacer height=”30px”]

This seemed to have stemmed the tide as waves of counter attacks from Leicester City were effectively dealt with, to keep the scoreline 1 nil into the break.

[spacer height=”30px”]

The Gunners resumed the second half of the game like a possessed team, breaking opposition plays and displaying dominance over the hosts, despite their 1 man advantage.

[spacer height=”30px”]

It came as no surprise, when The Gunners eventually got an equalizer, courtesy of some dodged attacking play on the right side by Ainsley Maitland-Niles, who was on the overlap.

[spacer height=”30px”]

His cutback into the area was met by no other than Arsenal’s fox in the box, Pierre Emerick Aubameyang who saw his first effort, brilliantly saved by Eldin Jakupovic but he was not to be denied, as he blasted his rebound effort into the roof of the net from an uncomfortable angle.

[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]

That goal made it his 9th goal in 12 matches for the Gunners, since arriving in January. He certainly proved he was worth every penny and more paid by the Gunners.

[spacer height=”30px”]

The Gunners had numerous chances after his goal to stop the haemorrhage of away losses but failed with the final ball.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Ramsey was the most culpable character of all, choosing to pass instead of taking a pop at goal, or feeding the final ball to the wrong teammate in hindsight.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Things only got worse, when Henrikh Mkhitaryan was adjudged to have made contact with Leicester substitute Damian Gray inside the box for a penalty.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Jamie Vardy who almost became an Arsenal player after Leicester City’s incredible title winning season but secretly regrets the decision, sent Cech the wrong way from the spot to make it 6 goals in 6 games against The Gunners.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Arsenal kept pushing and got punished on the counter eventually by Riyad Mahrez who with the aid of some excellent footwork, gave Rob Holding and co the slip and slotted home past Cech in the 85th minute to put the contest to bed.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Was it a red ? card? Well, considering it was a premeditated foul on the opponent who was some distance from goal and had another defender flagging him… Well in my opinion, a yellow would have sufficed.

[spacer height=”30px”]

That is not to say that it was a wrong call but I believe it was a harsh one, irrespective of bias. The call certainly aided the opposition however valiant, The Gunners were, after the fact.

Next was the penalty call. Was it really a penalty? Well… Looking at the line of sight the referee had, the contact however minimal and the naivety of the tackle from behind… I’d say it was the right call by the official.

Final game of the season comes up against Huddersfield at The John Smith’s Stadium. It is another away game for the Gunners.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Hopefully, the players will ensure Arsene Wenger does not walk away with the record of not winning an away game in the league, since the turn of the new year (2018).
