What Lingard has Said About Solskjaer’s Contribution Behind United’s Performance in Big Games Will Truly Make You Proud

Lingard

Jesse Lingard has heaped praise on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, saying he has brought back the ‘Manchester United way’.

Solskjaer was appointed interim manager in December and his impact been nothing short of miraculous. United look unrecognisable from the side that was drowning in toxicity in the months leading up to Jose Mourinho’s sacking.

Since the Norwegian’s arrival at the club, the players have started smiling again. Everyone, from the tea ladies to the players have started to feel why United used to be called a ‘family football club’ once more. On the pitch, the side are playing football reminiscent to how Sir Alex Ferguson’s sides used to play. Attacking football, that can also be switched to a lethal counter-attack style when required.

He has allowed the attacking players to be free again. Players such as Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba, Anthony Martial and Lingard himself have particularly thrived from his arrival. It isn’t just all happy go lucky for nothing either. The results of the Solskjaer regime is showing, or shining rather, in the results. The former United striker has been in charge for 8 games and has a 100% record, winning everything that has been thrown his way.

It started off easy with games against Newcastle, Brighton and Reading. Many expected him to be shown up in the big games. Instead, he took his side to Tottenham and won. He then followed that up by going to the Emirates and romping Arsenal 3-1 in the F.A Cup. This is no fluke.

Under Mourinho, United were languishing in 6th, 11 points off 4th placed Chelsea and 8 off Arsenal above them in 5th. Since Solskjaer’s arrival, they are now level with Arsenal and are only four points off 3rd placed Tottenham. They are scoring more while conceding less, with 22 for and 4 against. Everything is just working out for them, and Lingard opened up about exactly how much of an impact Solskjaer’s made.

“Ole has been great since he came in,” Jesse Lingard told Soccer AM.

“He has given a lot of advice, and he has let us play free, which is the main thing.

“Football you have to play with freedom, you have to play with that smile on your face, and he has let us do that.”

“Attacking football and playing the ball forward as soon as you can and scoring as many goals as you can,” he said. “If they score one, he knows we will score two and he has already had that mindset.

“He was just saying, ‘this is Man Utd and this is how we should be.’ We wear suits for away games now to look the part. He wanted to bring back the United way.

“I feel like we are always confident going into matches, even if they score, we know we are going to score two or three more.

“And our mindset has definitely changed going into big games.”
