Jose Mourinho’s Ridiculous Excuses About Man Utd’s Poor Performances

Manchester United side have already lost twice this term but have won their past two league games and have nine points from five matches. But Jose Mourinho still insists that they will have better season than the previous one.

The former Real Madrid coach said:

“I am not saying we are going to have more points than last season because last season we collect a very acceptable level.

“I think we are going to be a better team. We are going to play better than we did but I think it’s going to be a very difficult season.

“Not just for us, also for the others because the others they can say exactly the same as I am saying and they can say: ‘Oh, Manchester United, good team, good squad, City good squad, good team.’”

The truth is, United may have disappointed their fans in the transfer window, but they still have a remarkably strong squad for Mourinho to select from and when reduced down to the first team, have one of the most impressive line-ups in the Premier League this season.

In fact, the Red Devils have an attacking force which many teams die for – from Alexis Sanchez to Romelu Lukaku and the young rising talents of Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial – they have just about everything you could demand from a front line.

Their midfield is hardly a problem area either, with Paul Pogba and new addition of Fred available to the Portuguese boss and the likes of Ander Herrera and Marouane Fellaini in reserve too. But it’s at the back where Mourinho has been most concerned during the summer, and having failed to bring in any of his top transfer targets, which mean that the Manchester outfit have gone into the new season looking relatively similar to how they ended up last season.

The ex-Chelsea boss’ reign in charge of Manchester United has certainly been a turbulent one, with several ups and downs. However it cannot be denied that Mourinho has improved United from when Louis Van Gaal and David Moyes managed the club.

Critics may argue that Pep Guardiola has the better of Mourinho, but serious football fans will know that Mourinho has beaten his arch-rival before. In 2011/12, despite being written off at the start of the season, Mourinho’s Real Madrid overcome the might of Guardiola’s Barcelona (Messi, Xavi, Iniesta etc.) to win La Liga and force Guardiola to resign the next season.

A similar scenario may unfold next season. Guardiola’s Manchester City side are heavy favourites for the title but Mourinho has defeated his adversary before and can do so again. It’s also worth noting that Mourinho is on borrowed time. This pressure could motivate Mourinho to elevate the Reds to the next level, ensuring they do not slip points against the smaller teams.

Ultimately, if United can become more consistent and play more attacking football, they have a good chance of being in top four this season.

“I think we are going to be a better team but I think it’s going to be a very difficult season,” Mourinho concluded.

There are multiple differences between Liverpool, Manchester City and Tottenham, and Mourinho’s side, but the most obvious contrast lies in the performance of fringe players.

Taking Georginio Wijnaldum at Liverpool, Bernardo Silva at City and Lucas Moura at Tottenham. The former felt threatened by the arrival of Fabinho this summer, while the other two were kept on the fringes of the first team last season. Silva and Moura could easily have pushed for moves this summer.

Instead, Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino promised both that they would get chances to impress. While those two coaches carefully man-manage a first-team squad of 18, making everyone feel special, only the starting XI seem to matter to Mourinho. Players are bombed out, castigated in public and left out in the cold. They are then brought back into the first-team fold and expected to perform from a standing start.
