Match Preview: Manchester United Vs Everton

Everton

Everton visit Old Trafford on Sunday for a mouth watering Premier League clash against Manchester United.

The Reds so far

[spacer height=”20px”]

The in-form Manchester United have made the best start to the Premier League season since Ferguson.

[spacer height=”20px”]

United top the table with 10 points in 4 matches scoring 12 goals and conceding only twice. The Red Devils are barely ahead on goal difference from their city rivals Manchester City before Saturday’s match.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Jose Mourinho’s boys are high on confidence having beaten FC Basel in their previous Champions League clash with  a 3-0 scoreline.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The Reds will be keen to bounce back to winning ways in the Premier League after Stoke City broke their 100% start to the season.

[spacer height=”40px”]

Everton’s start to the season

[spacer height=”20px”]

Everton started their campaign as early as July for the UEFA Europa League third qualifying round.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The Blues beat Slovakian side MFK Ruzomberok and Hajduk Split of Croatia to advance to the group stages of the Europa League.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The Toffees kicked off their Group E campaign away at Atlanta where they faced a 3-0 defeat.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Everton made a poor start to the season having gained 4 points in as many games hanging at 16th position of the League table.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Everton suffered three consecutive losses in the previous matches against Chelsea, Tottenham and Atlanta, this being the first time for the Blues under Ronald Koeman.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Ronald Koeman would be hoping to turn the table at Old Trafford and return to winning ways.

News Update

[spacer height=”30px”]

Manchester United:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Paul Pogba’s hamstring injury rules him out of the match against the Merseyside Blues.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rojo still recover from their injury while Luke Shaw is ready to play having recovered from his ligament injury.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Phil Jones and Eric Baily are available for selection having served the UEFA ban against the Swiss Champions FC Basel.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Everton:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Ross Barkley, Ramiro Funes Mori, Yannick Bolasie and Seamus Coleman look to remain absent for their trip to Old Trafford.

[spacer height=”20px”]

However, ex-Reds Morgan Schneiderlin and Wayne Rooney may appear against their former club.

[spacer height=”40px”]

Familiar faces

[spacer height=”20px”]

A number of players from both the teams will take on their former clubs in the Sunday clash between United and Everton.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Wayne Rooney and Romelu Lukaku have swapped their teams this summer and will be facing their former employers and colleagues.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Lukaku’s Belgian compatriot Marouane Fellaini will face his former club Everton after joining Manchester United in 2013.

[spacer height=”20px”]

While Morgan Schneiderlin will appear against United having played for them before joining the Blues.

[spacer height=”40px”]

Past Clashes

[spacer height=”20px”]

Manchester United have a mixed all-time record against Everton having won 85 matches, drawn 44 and lost 66 matches in total of 195 matches since 1892.

[spacer height=”20px”]

However, Manchester United have lost only a single match in the last six games against Everton.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Moreover, Everton have beaten the Devils only twice at the Old Trafford in the Premier League era.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Match Referee

[spacer height=”20px”]

Andre Marriner will be officiating over the match between Everton and the Reds.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The 46-year old FIFA official will oversee his 4th Premier League match in this season.

[spacer height=”20px”]

The man from West Midlands will be assisted by Simon Beck and Andy Halliday, with Jon Moss on fourth official duties.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Marriner handled five United games in the 2016/17 season including the EFL Cup win over Southampton.

[spacer height=”40px”]

The stastistical record between Mourinho and Koeman stands at 5 matches with the Portuguese won none of the matches.

[spacer height=”20px”]

This could be the perfect time for Mourinho and his men to get back on track in the English top-flight.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Our newly acquired striker is in good form having scored 4 goals in 4 matches so far in the 2017/18 season.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Fans would be hoping hot-form players such as Rashford and Mkhitaryan again give a confident and stellar performance at Old Trafford against the Merseyside.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Though being a Red fan, I would still like to see Wayne Rooney perform well in the match.
