Breakdown in talks with Mesut Ozil, no talks held since February

Ozil

[spacer height=”30px”]

Mesut Ozil is set to leave Arsenal next summer for free after seeing out his contract at London and has reportedly informed the club about his decision.

[spacer height=”30px”]

According to reports in Sportsbild via the Sun and subsequently in various media outlets like the Sun and the Mirror, contract talks have been suspended with Mesut Ozil since the month of February and no fresh talks have been held since then.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Mesut Ozil has been the subject of intense criticism already this season after losses against Liverpool and Stoke City mainly for his actions off the ball and his languid body language, with people and pundits apparently all failing to notice his offensive contributions and chances created.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Ozil’s contract is also up at the end of the year but unlike Sanchez who seems destined to leave for free at the end of next season after almost leaving on deadline day, was said to be happy at Arsenal and even revealed his preference about wanting to stay at the Emirates.

[spacer height=”30px”]

But now according to reports in his homeland it seems like discussions have indeed halted about a potential extension and a contract package in excess of  280,000 euros per week.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Its is being further reported that it is Arsenal who seem to have called off contract talks due to the then uncertainly about the managers future at the club.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Alexis apparently leaving seems like something that most Arsenal fans have come to terms with but that fact that Ozil will also be allowed to leave on a free seems like a criminal thing to do by the club. Loosing both your best players in the same season for free is going to be a blunder.

[spacer height=”30px”]

A player like Sanchez can still be replaced with another proven attacking midfielder but finding another creative genius with the same vision as a certain Mesut Ozil will almost be an impossible thing to do specially if you have no money coming in from these departures.

[spacer height=”30px”]

The German since arriving in 2013/2014 has gone on to be the highest creator of chances and assist maker in the entire league

[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”40px”]

Meanwhile manager Arsene Wenger had previously insisted that he was confident of keeping Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez at Arsenal  saying :

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] [spacer height=”30px”] “they love the club, they integrate well the values of the club and live the football we play. [spacer height=”20px”] This summer, first of all, they will stay at the club and hopefully we can extend their contracts. [spacer height=”20px”] We cannot weaken the club or the team unless we can find someone of the same calibre and they absolutely want to believe. [/perfectpullquote]

[spacer height=”30px”]

Previously BBC Reporter David Ornstein in his big expose about Arsenal had also revealed that Arsenal had not had fresh contract talks with Mesut Ozil since the month of February.

[spacer height=”30px”]

While we may wish not to believe that Arsenal have indeed allowed him to run down his contract so far be being this inactive, judging by these reports from SportBild and the fact that Ornstein had also said the exact same thing, it seems indeed that Arsenal last had contract talks with Ozil in February and nothing since then.

[spacer height=”30px”]

What bewilders me is that during preseason he had clearly said that upon returning back to London there would be further contract talks held indicating that he was ready to sit at one the end of the table if Arsenal did likewise.

[spacer height=”30px”]

But it seems the departure of Dick Law and the changes being made behind the scenes are probably what has caused the delay in contract talks so far. Maybe there is a plan and structure behind this chaos that we see on the front or maybe its just total mayhem at Arsenal with regards to contracts and extensions.
