CSKA Moscow

The Champions League returns as Manchester United prepare for one of the most trickiest fixture of the season as they travel to CSKA Moscow for their Champions League match.

United ride on the back of a hard fought win against Southampton in the Premier League. The Reds are unbeaten this season so far.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Jose Mourinho and his men beat FC Basel 3-0 in their first group stage match as United played their first CL match in two years.

[spacer height=”30px”]

CSKA also started their Champions League campaign with a 2-1 away win at Benfica and stand second in Group A.

[spacer height=”30px”]

A total of 9 players will be out from both teams due to injuries.

[spacer height=”30px”]

It won’t be that easy for United in the Russian capital as CSKA Moscow rallied past AEK Athens and BSC Young Boys without conceding a single goal.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Ahead of the match on Wednesday, here is the team news and updates on injuries for Manchester United.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Manchester United:

[spacer height=”20px”]

Jose Mourinho has spoken in his pre-match press conference about how Marouane Fellaini will be out for the Group A clash in Moscow.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Fellaini is also set to miss the weekend clash with Crystal Palace after succumbing to an ankle injury in a challenge from behind by Shane Long.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Ander Herrera may take his place alongside Nemanja Matic in midfield against CSKA Moscow.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Mourinho confirmed about two other crucial midfielders sidelined due to injuries: Micheal Carrick and Paul Pogba.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Mourinho told the reporters:

[spacer height=”20px”]

“I won’t have Fellaini, I won’t have Pogba, we won’t have Carrick, so all three midfield players that we lose for this match.”

[spacer height=”20px”]

Paul Pogba is still sidelined due to a hamstring injury he suffered against FC Basel a fortnight ago. Micheal Carrick did not travel to CSKA Moscow with the rest of the players due to a small injury.

[spacer height=”20px”]

But Mourinho ensures to focus on a win at VEB Arena despite few available options:

“So there are not many solutions, but we try not to focus on individual battles or in specific areas on the pitch. We try to focus on the globality [team as a whole] and we are going to have a team with quality, with balance, to try to win the match which is our objective.”

Phil Jones and Eric Baily are available after serving their respective European bans against FC Basel. But Phil Jones was not photographed by M.E.N. reporters with the other players.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Phil Jones was not included in the squad that boarded the plane to Moscow after picking up an injury in the match against Southampton. Another player that was not present is Antonio Valencia.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Meanwhile, Baily may represent United for the first time in the Champions League fixture against CSKA Moscow.

[spacer height=”20px”]

Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Marcus Rojo are still out due to their long term injuries and their return time is unavailable.

[spacer height=”20px”]

However, one good news is Nemanja Matic is in contention to play even after picking up a small injury against Southampton.

Jose Mourinho usually takes 20 players for away fixtures but here only 19 players was seen to board the plane.
