English Premier League Returns As We Take A Look At What Lies Ahead For Arsenal In The Post-Wenger Era

[spacer height=”20px”]With the transfer window closed, all the attention is on Game Week One of The Premier League as the Gunners start their season facing Manchester City on Sunday. With new players and staff deployed at Arsenal , the question is what they can achieve this season, particularly in the Premier League.Other teams have strengthened too in the transfer market with over 800 millions pounds being spent.

Winning the premier league would be quite difficult for the Gunners this season as it would be Unai Emery’s first season and his tactics would take time to develop. With a changed backroom staff, the players would try to implement new skills in matches which could prove costly at some times. Lucas Torreira,Sokratis,Guendouzi will surely take time to get used to the toughness of the premier league. After all the transfers Gunners have made, fans will still think that they need a natural winger and a commanding centre back in the team. It would be the lack in these areas which would cost them, most importantly in the Premier League.

Other teams have strengthened to a great extent with Liverpool finally having a quality keeper in Alisson and 2 natural defensive midfielders , Chelsea have improved their midfield , Manchester clubs have invested a bit too and on the other side Tottenham Hotspur did not sign a single player this transfer window and became the first premier league club to do so since the summer transfer window was introduced in 2003. Although other mid-table premier league teams like Everton and West Ham surprised a plenty, doing better than even most of the exequiste clubs in the premier league. Overall, I opine that Arsenal would finish 3rd this season, behind Man City and Liverpool.

The Europa League is the competition Gunners will be optimistic about. With Emery already winning the competition 3 times, the experience he has is unparalleled and with players like Aubameyang and Torreira in the Europa league will not only help the Gunners in a long run but also strengthen them in an attacking point of view. Realistically,Chelsea is currently the only team in the Europa league which would prove as competition. However, there is always the scare of an Atletico Madrid or any other great team coming 3rd in the Champions league group and entering the Europa, thus increasing the competition.

The league would also compliment the youth in their development. We would see a lot of Smith-Rowe and Reiss Nelson in the Europa. Arsenal Fans would be expect the Gunners to win the Europa League this Season with Emery’s experience in the competition as a strong backing to the cause.

Both, the Carabao Cup and the FA cup would act as a stage for our youngsters and perhaps new transfers to shine and will provide the necessary rest to the regulars in the Premier League Games.Arsenal would already play many matches due to the premier league and the Europa, leading to a very tight schedule for them. However , if  they get knocked out of the Europa early and the premiership isn’t looking likely , we would see players like Lacazette and Ozil starting in these competitions. I predict that we will reach the finals of the FA cup and lose early in the Carabao Cup.

All in all , I expect the gunners to win the Europa League and finish in the top four in the Premier League. Not winning any silverware and finishing in the top 4 just wouldn’t be good enough. However, we have to respect the fact that this would be the manager’s first season. Arsenal fans will be optimistic for the new season, especially in terms of the Europa League as they go into action on Sunday against the defending champions Manchester City in what would be a Premier League blockbuster as the Emery Era begins.
