Watch : Skhodran Mustafi facing a ‘long break’ due to a muscle tear suffered during Interlul

Mustafi

Arsenal centre-back Shkodran Mustafi limped off on the 36th minute with a painful injury as World Cup holders Germany completed a 100% record in Group C by thrashing Azerbaijan.

Mustafi appeared to be in quite some pain as he looked to have pulled his thigh muscle in the build up to Azerbaijan’s equalising goal in the first half and had to carried off the field by two people.

With nobody around him during the incident, Mustafi was seen going to the ground clutching his thigh muscles under what looked like quite excruciatingly painful circumstances for the German.

He was helped from the pitch by two other people before being replaced by Matthias Ginter.

Speaking after the match to reporters, Joachim Leow provided his initial analysis on Mustafi injury saying :

[perfectpullquote align=”full” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””] “With Mustafi it seems that it is some muscle tear or some muscle fibre tear,” [spacer height=”20px”]  “In any case it could force him to a longer break.” [/perfectpullquote]

[spacer height=”30px”]

With what seems like quite a painful muscle tear for our German tough tackling centre back, a lengthy spell on the sidelines might in store for him and full details and extent of his injury will be revealed after he undergoes scans at London Colney training centre.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Arsenal meanwhile are off to Watford on sunday in the league and had even received a triple injury boost during the international break with Danny Welback, Coquelin and Mesut Ozil all set to return to training with the first team from the next week however the news of Mustafi facing a spell on the sidelines is sure to have sucked up all the joy from that.

[spacer height=”30px”]

With Laurent Koscielny nursing his troublesome achilles and Calum Chambers also out of training due to a hip problem, Mustafi is the latest centre-back to join our injury league.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Basically that leaves us with Per Mertesacker, Rob Holding and Nacho Monreal to start at the back unless Kos is declared fit to play.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Well good times certainly do not last long for us and just when it seemed like we could have all our players back in training we are left facing a possible defensive crisis with the absence of three of our centre backs all together.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Germany meanwhile have won all 10 of their group matches, scoring a whopping 43 goals in the process. They are just the second European team to win all 10 of their matches in a qualifying campaign after Spain, who went on to do it back in 2010. Precious omens indeed for the Germans.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Lets hope Mustafi doesn’t need too much rest on the sidelines to patch up his thigh ‘muscle tear or muscle fiber tear’ and we get to see him launching vicious sliding tackles on all that stands in opposition colours as soon as possible.
