The 16-year-old, who had his medical at the Emirates on Monday, has signed scholarship terms with the Gunners, and will sign his first professional deal when he turns 17 in January.[spacer height=”30px”]

Confirming his move from Sunderland in an Instagram post Sam Greenwood said:[spacer height=”30px”]

“Today is the start of a new chapter in my life signing for Arsenal and I can’t wait to get started, I’m looking forward to the challenges ahead.

“Leaving Sunderland after 10 years, the club I love and support was a very hard decision.

“I have met some special people along the way, big thanks to Sunderland and all coaches past and present for everything they have done for me.

“I will never forget my roots.”[spacer height=”30px”]

Greenwood, who reportedly refused to sign a new dead at Sunderland, scored six goals and had six assists for the club’s Under-18 side last season.[spacer height=”30px”]

His impressive displays saw him provide six assists in the Under-18 Premier League, earned him three call-ups to the England Under-16 squad.[spacer height=”30px”]

While the first team has suffered consecutive relegations, the reputation of the club’s academy has grown.[spacer height=”30px”]

Graduate Jordan Pickford is England’s first-choice goalkeeper at the World Cup, where his performances are said to have attracted the attention of some of Europe’s top clubs. Jordan Henderson has been one of the squad’s leaders, anchoring the midfield in every meaningful game the Three Lions have played in Russia.[spacer height=”30px”]

Why Arsenal’s Future lies in the hands of Sven Mislintat the Brilliant German Magician, rather than Emery or Gazidis

[spacer height=”30px”]

Both started their careers at Sunderland but felt they needed to move on – to Everton and Liverpool respectively – to progress it.[spacer height=”30px”]

It’s no surprise Sam Greenwood has caught the eye of some of the top English clubs, considering he scored 21 goals in 26 games for Sunderland’s u16 and u18 teams last season.[spacer height=”30px”]

Quite an impressive acquisition for the club academy to add to their ranks how the 16 surely has a tough path to a first team berth given the plethora of goal scoring talent young attackers that Arsenal have in their ranks who will all remain ahead of Sam Greenwod for the time being. [spacer height=”30px”]

Players like Eddie Niketiah, Chuba Akpom, Stephy Mavididi, Emile Smith Rowe all have their eyes on managing to secure a first team position and are already training hard in a bid to showcase their skills and ability to new manager Unai Emery ahead of the new season and will provide a very difficult road ahead to our new striking protege Sam Greenwood. [spacer height=”30px”]

Arsenal confirmed the signing of Uruguay midfielder Lucas Torreira from Sampdoria last week and have already landed Stephan Lichtsteiner, Bernd Leno and Sokratis Papastathopoulos this summer.[spacer height=”30px”]

Quite an eventful transfer window so far and its still three weeks for the season to even begin. Hard to imagine indeed. [spacer height=”30px”]
