Five World Class Players Most Likely to Sign for Manchester United in the January Transfer Window

centre back, most possible transfers for United

It’s no longer a secret that United are in desperate need of a versatile centre-back signing in the winter transfer window. Phil Jones and Victor Lindelof are surely putting up a shift under Solskjaer.

But a strong and a ball-playing centre-back is what United miss at this current moment. So, United would most probably be going for only defenders in this window and Solskjaer will have his say on the transfers.

Here are the 5 Players:

Kalidou Koulibaly

Koulibaly is a French-born Senegalese defender who plays for S.S.C Napoli in Italy. Koulibaly can be regarded as one of the best defenders in the world right now along with Virgil van Dijk and Sergio Ramos.

This Powerhouse centre-back is valued at 70 Million Euros. United are reportedly bidding at 90 Million Euros for Koulibaly, who also reportedly has a 107 Million Euros offer rejected from FC Barcelona (source: Daily Express). Koulibaly has been a long term target for Manchester United.

Koulibaly already has a 91 Million euros offer rejected from Manchester United when Mourinho was in charge. Ed Woodward has been a long admirer of Koulibaly and now that Napoli are out of UCL, it remains to be seen would Koulibaly be interested in changing teams for getting a chance at lifting the UCL trophy in June and United would pounce at even the slightest of chances to buy the Tank.

Milan Skriniar

This Slovakian defender plays for Inter Milan in Italy and has a contract running until 2022. Aged just 23 and standing at 6’2″, the centre-back has seen his value rise from 34 Million Euros, which is what Inter paid Sampdoria to acquire his services in 2017, to 60 Million Euros according to Transfermarkt. As United are in search of a leader in their defense, Skriniar would be a perfect candidate.

Even Chelsea are believed to have been entered the race to sign the young Slovak who is regarded as one of the finest centre-backs in Italian football. United are believed to be looking to bid at the range of 70 Million Euros for the Inter Milan centre-back.

Nikola Milenkovic

Milenkovic, a Serbian centre-back who plays for ACF Fiorentina in Italy. Aged 21, Nikola Milenkovic can play both at the centre of defense as well as at right-back.

United are tracking Milenkovic in a 45Million Euros deal. The youngster has impressed in Italy in his two seasons since arriving from Partizan, with Juventus and Atletico Madrid also interested in him.

Milenkovic though, could be tough to sign during the mid-season window because of his long term contract but anything is possible.

Yannick Carrasco

Yannick Carrasco is a Belgian footballer who plays as a winger for Dalian Yifang in China. Although, Carrasco is in good form in the CSL, but would reportedly be open to any move in Europe as would be the case for any player.

Carrasco moved to the Chinese Super League last year in a 26 Million Euros swoop having fallen out with Atletico boss Diego Simeone. Despite an interest from Arsenal and United, he joined the newly promoted Far East side alongside another Red Devils target Nicolas Gaitan.

And he is definitely enjoying life in China, having scored seven goals for Dalian and adding nine assists to his tally – best numbers he has had in a single season in his career.

Toby Alderweireld

Another Belgian International, Toby Alderweireld has been on United’s radar for quite long time now. But, having recently renewed his contract, its highly unlikely that he will move elsewhere.

United were keen on signing him during the summer transfer window of 2018. It remains to be seen whether United succeed in capturing his services or not.
