Mourinho and United to turn the table on Transfer Deadline Day

Today in the press conference, Manchester united manager Jose Mourinho has stated that he is not expecting to make any deadline day signings.[spacer height=”30px”]

It is quite clear that United has not had a very good transfer window, Mourinho had started the transfer business with a clear vision but has not yet accomplished anything so far.[spacer height=”30px”]

Manchester United started their chase for a new center-back by bidding for German defender, Jerome Boateng. But now it seems like move is not going to be happen as United are willing to offer only half of the sum proposed by Bayern Munich. According to article by the Guardian, Boateng told Mourinho that he believes more in the Bayern project at the moment and that the chances of winning the Champions League are more with the German champions.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]Jose Mourinho started reaching out to center backs in the Premier League as well. United are heavily linked with Toby Alderweireld and Harry Maguire to strengthen their defensive half. Claude Puel is certain that Maguire is going nowhere, as he cleared this during pre-match interview;[spacer height=”30px”]

“I’m confident he’s going to Manchester United, but only for a couple of hours with us”, Puel told the media ahead of the trip to the Premier League runners-up on Friday.[spacer height=”20px”]

I am happy to keep Harry and all our best players. We lost Riyad, he was valuable for us but was important to keep all our best players, we want to keep a good ambition. [spacer height=”20px”]

We have spoken to Harry and the Chairman. We cannot change things just before a game and the transfer window. For us, it is not possible and we have to prepare for the season.”[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]On the other hand, Toby Alderweireld seems keen for a move to Old Trafford but Mourinho thinks that a £55m fee is too high for the Belgian defender.[spacer height=”30px”]

The Red Devils were even trying to bring in Diego Godin as they had paid the release clause of €25M to Atlético Madrid and €9M per season to the player, but Godin has rejected the offer and it was told that he is not looking for a move away from Madrid.[spacer height=”30px”]

Now, with less than 24 hours left before the deadline, United are running desperate to bringing a defender as they even have started talks with direct rivals, Chelsea, trying to strike a deal for Kurt Zouma. Everton are also in the race for the 23 years old defender, as they are trying to bring in Zouma on a loan.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]However, no one can be sure about Mourinho’s intentions, if he is working on bringing in a new player from the shadows or as suggested earlier that no new players will be joining the squad during the deadline day.[spacer height=”30px”]

United are in quite a crisis here as they haven’t struck a big deal yet and this makes us wonder if the Red Devils are even prepared to mount challenge the Premier League. With Pogba being heavily linked to Barcelona move, Mourinho is going to be under tremendous pressure this season. [spacer height=”30px”]

It’s a make or break kind of a situation for United, either Mourinho is going to prove everyone wrong with building well-planned tactics for the new season or, as feared, this won’t be a pretty season for United.[spacer height=”30px”]
