Why Manchester United should be optimistic about winning the Premier League next season

Premier League, Arsedevils, Manchester United

Jose Mourinho is a man who has earned his reputation as the man for the big occasion and last weekend in the Premier League, he reminded everyone of his undoubted quality as an astute tactician. But yesterday night United underwent a big fault ruining the mood of the supporters once again.

In the buildup to the Manchester derby away at the Etihad Stadium, all the talk centered on The Citizens defeating Manchester United on the derby day to win the Premier League, but United boss Jose Mourinho and his band of players had other plans.

Manchester City raced to a two-goal lead in the first half, utterly dominating The Red Devils but in what will go down as one of his finest moments as manager, Mourinho rallied his troops to a scintillating comeback victory.

A marvelous double from Paul Pogba and another from Smalling gave Manchester City their first home defeat in more than a year and showed that City are not so invincible that they have been made out to be. While City was stopped from winning the Premier League last week but it was bound to happen sooner rather than later, as it happened tonight after Manchester United lost to West Brom at Old Trafford.

Going into yesterday’s match, The Red Devils rode high on confidence but the outcome came in favour of The Citizens as United gave away a 73rd minute goal to West Brom, the winner being scored by Jay Rodriguez for the visitors. This outcome turned out to be the final nail in the coffin as City won the Premier League with five games to spare.

Although United’s performance this week was below par, there have been signs of improvement from United this season after the 6th placed finish of last term in the Premier League, and next season will show how far United have come under the tutelage of Jose Mourinho. United will only improve, get better and improved players and with the desire of the players and the manager to return to the zenith of English football, it makes it juicier.

Manchester City will not have it all their way next term, as teams know that getting them under pressure puts them at a back foot and will be used to an advantage by many Premier League teams.

Liverpool showed it in the Champions League and United defeated them in their backyard, so teams can build on that premise. Manchester United are on the up, and next season may see the crowning glory for the work Jose has put in. It would taste sweeter if he does it to frustrate Pep Guardiola.
