Five Players Who Could Follow in the Footsteps of Dan James By Rising From the Championship

Daniel James, Championship

Though the Welshman has found opportunities a little more difficult to come by this season, Dan James perfectly represents the Championship talent available and accessible to Premier League clubs. While top tier teams like Arsenal and United typically raid fellow Premier League sides or cast their net overseas for new additions, they are certainly missing out on talent present in the Championship.

In this article, we will identify five players currently lighting up the Championship who have plenty of talent and are capable of not only playing in the Premier League but making an impact with a club challenging for silverware and competing in the upper reaches of the table.

Max Aarons – Norwich City

Max Aarons played a key role for the Canaries last season in an ultimately ill-fated battle against relegation and appears to have picked up from where he left off in 19/20. The youngster was linked with a move to Barcelona during the close-season, so Norwich have done well to keep hold of him.

Aarons has helped his side to a strong start to the season and the Canaries are fancied as 13/8 favourites to win the league in the latest Championship betting.

Ismaila Sarr – Watford

Another player who dropped down from the Premier League with his club last season is Ismaila Sarr. The Senegalese international arrived at Vicarage Road from Rennes in 2019 and his performances last season provided a rare highlight of his talent as the Hornets suffered relegation to the Championship.

The Watford winger has been heavily linked with Manchester United this season while the Gunners have been following him since his days at Stade Rennes. Still only 22, the winger undoubtedly has his best days ahead of him.

David Brooks – Bournemouth

Formerly on the books of Manchester City as a youth player, David Brooks found a real platform to showcase his talents at Bournemouth after beginning his senior career with Sheffield United. The 23-year-old midfielder already has 39 Premier League appearances to his name and is highly-rated by Cherries manager Jason Tindall.

Brooks was linked with a transfer to United as an alternative to Dortmund’s Jadon Sancho, which ultimately fell through. The Bournemouth winger was also linked to Liverpool which speaks a lot about his quality.

Bryan Mbuemo – Brentford

Losing out in the play-off final to Fulham, Brentford were hugely unlucky to miss out on promotion to the Premier League this season. While many of their top stars were picked off at the end of the campaign, French youngster Bryan Mbeumo has stayed put and continued his development with the London based club. Mbeumo is a France under-21 international and big things are expected of him.

Adam Armstrong – Blackburn Rovers

The final player on our list is one of the most prolific scorers in the Championship this season. Proving to everybody that he isn’t afraid to shoot, Blackburn Rovers marksman Adam Armstrong has been a key ingredient in his side’s push up the table in 2020/21. Armstrong has already attracted Premier League interest and it’ll be no surprise to see others making their interest known if he can maintain his form.

Though the gap between the Championship and the Premier League is huge, players like Dan James have proved that there is talent in the second tier too, perhaps including this quintet, capable of making an impact at the very top of English football.
