Aaron Ramsey Back on Arsenal Radar and Here is What They Need to Sign Him

Aaron Ramsey return Emirates

Mikel Arteta and Arsenal have begun their rebuilding process this summer. Despite the new arrivals at the Emirates, the manager is on the lookout for more quality players, especially in the middle of the park. The Gunners have already signed Sambi Lokonga from Anderlecht, and are also heavily linked with James Maddison. However, the most interesting news that has been making rounds on the internet is that of a return for Aaron Ramsey to the Emirates.

Aaron Ramsey made the switch to Juventus in 2019 on a free transfer after the Gunners retracted the contract extension offer before he could sign on the dotted line. However, the player has not been able to live up to his billing in Italy and is likely to leave the Serie A club this summer. The Italian news outlet La Gazzetta dello Sport (via Mirror) have reported that the Turin based club want to get €250,000-a-week player off their wage bill.

According to reports, Aaron Ramsey is being linked with a return to the Emirates. However, the bigger news is that Tottenham’s new managing director of football Fabio Paratici wants to bring the Wales player to the other part of North London. The Old Lady are demanding £8.5million for the player’s services.

Aaron Ramsey was a key figure during his stay at Arsenal and very instrumental to their attacking plays. He featured in 262 Premier League games during his 11-year stay with the Gunners, scoring 40 goals and securing 46 assists to his name. He also scored the winning goals in two separate FA Cup finals for the North London club.

This certainly makes things interesting for Arsenal as they would not want their former player and fan-favourite joining their arch-rivals Tottenham. Although convincing Ramsey to return to the Emirates rather than joining their rivals might be easy, the real question is whether they should go for their former player or get new names.

Even though one has to take into consideration that the Welshman is 30-year-old, he would fit in with the team in no time, having played in the Premier League earlier. Players take time to settle in and feel at home at a new club, which will not be the case for Ramsey. Moreover, he could play a crucial role in Arteta’s rebuilding project having played with him.

Meanwhile, Arsenal are being heavily linked with Denis Zakaria of Borussia Monchengladbach and Leicester City’s James Maddison. Both the players are young, making them good prospects for a long term project, which is now underway at the Emirates.

However, James Maddison is being priced at £60 million by the Foxes which is a big-money move and given Arsenal’s summer spending till now, the transfer might be difficult. On the other hand, Denis Zakaria will cost only around £30m, but not Premier League proven. The current situation is very tricky for the Gunners.

Realistically, Aaron Ramsey still has much to offer despite his age, being a proven midfield talisman at the Emirates and a return would certainly increase the excitement levels of the fans. It’s still a month to go for the transfer window to end and we will have to wait and see.
