It appears that Alexandre Lacazette can’t avoid trouble even in lockdown, which is a genuine skill. In social isolation and restricted training, the misfiring Frenchman has been pictured inhaling from a balloon.
Alexandre Lacazette was pictured with his lips on a balloon looking jaded in a repeat of the infamous 2018 incident which included a group of players including Lacazette. On that occasion, players were videoed passing out after inhaling the gas, dubbed as “hippy crack” from a balloon at a champagne and vodka party, which the stars thought was off Arsenal’s radar.
Some obliging citizens released the footage to the press and at the time, the squad had to be reminded of the standards expected of club players. All those involved were subsequently fined for their indiscretions and throughout the debacle the club remained tight-lipped. The good time balloon boys included Matteo Guendouzi, Mesut Ozil, and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, all of whom appeared to be in the middle of the shenanigans.
Alexandre Lacazette then decided to break with government restrictions during lockdown for a kick about with fellow offenders David Luiz, Granit Xhaka, and Nicolas Pepe in a park in Southgate. The latest “balloongate” incident will most certainly be frowned upon, but will it end the Frenchman’s Arsenal career?
Well it may be a case of a well-constructed plan to engineer a transfer away from North London because it has been said that the striker is growing increasingly frustrated at Arsenal by his role, form, and lack of European football. Not that it matters at a time like this with so much uncertainty in the world, but Lacazette is said to view things quite differently and wants to get out as soon as possible to rekindle his career, which is currently in the dull drums.
Arsenal will not make their intentions known on the matter, but it’s said that the board and new coach, Mikel Arteta, are livid. Arteta is seen as quite the disciplinarian, while Lacazette occasionally shows sparks of petulance. This all makes for an interesting meeting behind closed doors for a safe 2-meter distance of course.
There are rumours that patience is becoming exhausted with a player who has failed to deliver by his high standards. If there is any hope, it’s that Arteta will look at the bigger picture but with Martinelli in the wings, the Spaniard may make a statement by benching the striker until he can deliver on and off the field.
The emphasis on Lacazette is understandably less with Aubameyang overshadowing his strike partner. It’s said that Aubameyang may leave in the summer to achieve his dreams in Spain but now that situation is made ten times worse by Lacazette’s indiscipline and possible departure.

What if they were both to exit? Well, I wouldn’t hit the panic button just yet, Arsenal will go for a more seasoned striker if the need arises to complement its emerging talents which include Eddie Nketiah, Gabriel Martinelli, Folarin Balogun, Sam Greenwood, and Tyreece John-Jules.
Lacazette appears to be on borrowed time and the club may use him in an upcoming swap deal after yet another gaff. This may yet prove to be a genius move on behalf of a player who needs new motivation but lacks the stomach to tell his paymasters.
