Sensational | Alexis Finally Admits Flopping And Reveals His Fears About Having Lost His Spark At Manchester United

Alexis, Sanchez, Alexis Sanchez

Alexis Sanchez has not been in the best of forms since his move to Manchester United. The Red Devils brought in the ex-Arsenal winger in an attempt to bolster their attack. However, since his arrival Sanchez’s time at the Theatre of Dreams has been a nothing short of horrible nightmare at Elm Street.

The 30-year-old forward has spent half his days at Old Trafford injured and the other half producing underwhelming performances.

Even the recent change in management has failed to bring out the Chilean’s best. While United’s other attack-minded players have thrived under the management of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, Alexis Sanchez has found it increasingly difficult to hold down a place in the starting XI.

With only 5 goals in 37 appearances, Alexis has just been a shadow of his former, excellent, self.

In an interview with BBC, the former Barcelona player confessed that he is worried that he has not been able to produce what is expected of him, and he hopes to bring more to the club. Sanchez said:

“I would like to have brought more joy to the club.”

Sanchez also revealed how he was injured, moments before coming on as a substitute in United’s 2-0 loss to PSG in the Champions League. He said:

“The referee’s assistant, when we had a counter-attack, came flying down the line, and I had my foot there and he crashed into me. Bang. And I went back to the dugout and I said to [reserve goalkeeper] Sergio Romero: ‘I’ve just been whacked and I’m about to go on.”

Sanchez further added:

“I’ve got bruising but that’s not an excuse for not being on my game in the way that I normally am.”

Speaking about his new manager, Alexis said:

“He [Solskjaer] hasn’t spoken to me a great deal about what I have to do on the pitch, but I think I’m an experienced player and I think I know what I need to do and what I shouldn’t do.”

He also went on to comment about his style of play and how he wishes to contribute more to Manchester United.

“I’m a player that, if I’m not in contact with the ball, I lose that spark, and sometimes I want to play in every game. You’re in, you’re out, and I’m used to playing.”

“It’s not an excuse because if I go on for 10, 20 minutes, I have to perform because that’s what I’m here for, to make a difference.”

“I would like to have brought more joy to the club. Yes, it worries me because I believe in my abilities as a player, I want to show it.”

He added:

“I don’t know how people see me, but football is what I’ve loved from being a kid and it’s my passion.”

The Chilean opened up about how being in and out of the team has affected his confidence. He said:

“But within the group, there was that feeling that you were in the team, then out. Sometimes I didn’t play, then I did, then I didn’t and as a player, you lose confidence.”

His teammate, Ander Herrera, had only positive things to say about the Chilean, though. Herrera was quoted as saying:

“I have big expectations for Alexis because he’s a fantastic player and he’s a fantastic professional.”

“He wants to be important for the club and I’m sure he’s going to be. The only thing we can tell him is that we all believe in his qualities, we know what he has.

“We all know what he is capable of, and he’s going to do it, so you will see it soon. I think he should be very calm because he has everything to be a top player in this club and he will be.”

Only time will tell, whether Alexis will become as important to the United squad as he wishes to be or not. The winger’s future with the club may not be as secure as he would want it to be, and rumours that he may return to Arsenal for more regular game time may very well become true in the summer transfer window.
