A Reasonable Analysis On Why Manchester United Need Juan Mata More Than Mata Needs United Next Season

Juan Mata, Mata,

According to reports in England, Juan Mata could be handed over an extension on his contract which is due to expire this summer.

The international break has given the United think-tank to strategize for the uphill tasks ahead. As they gear up for the upcoming clashes, one eye would unsurprisingly be on preparing a formidable core of the team for the next season.

While United haven’t been among the most flamboyant transfers lately, they will certainly be eager to make their attack, even more difficult to contain by bolstering it even further. What’s commendable is the kind of mix they have to their disposal.

The experience and youth seem to have found perfect romance at the club.

One of the talking points while Ole Gunnar Solskjaer took over the managerial duties in the winter was contract renewals of some players. One such crucial entity was Juan Mata.

With his contract set to end during the summer, the Spaniard would be itching to make a mark given an opportunity in the first team. Mata has not been the first choice starter and seems to lack the X-factor that Solskjaer desires in the central attack.

Mata joined United from Chelsea during the winter of 2014 on the back of a stellar run of form and having been the PFA player of the year, the year before.

Since then, he has been clinical in the limited opportunities he has got with 32 goals to his name in the 157 appearances for the club.

With the kind of experience and calm he brings to the table, he is quite an asset to have for any club. However, given the buzz he created with his arrival at Old Trafford, fans might feel he seems a bit underused lately.

Despite all this hara-kiri regarding his role, the midfielder seems content with the treatment at the club. Juan Mata also seems to developed a perfect bond with the players and the manager which makes the possibility of renewal even higher.

Juan Mata was once quoted as saying:

There is fantastic chemistry between all of us, with the players, the manager and his staff.

Since he came the only thing he tried is to make us confident, that we can beat anyone, that we can play very good and get the results and we are doing so.

We’re very happy, we’re high on confidence and know we face another challenge in the Champions League game against PSG, it’s very difficult but hopefully we can keep going.”

United are known to give shorter contracts to players above 30. Be it Zlatan Ibrahimovic, Ryan Giggs or Paul Scholes. Everyone was given a year’s contract with a possible extension of an year. The norm seems to be the same still as Marouane Fellaini was given a 2-year extension last winter.

So, one won’t be surprised if Juan Mata is given a chance to justify his potential for an year or so. He is more than just capable to do that. A contract renewal may be the perfect boost for the Spaniard to revitalise himself for the next season.

Although United could benefit from a strong centre-forward in the summer transfer window, one cannot question the expertise of Juan Mata which can prove to be the impulse to drive United forward. Hence, the renewal seems inevitable as Mata can also prove to be the alma-mater for many who are making their way from the academy and could use the seasoned guidance of someone as influential as Juan Mata himself.
