Why Andreas Pereira could actually be the solution to all of United’s midfield woes

Andreas Pereira

Andreas Pereira, 20 years old teenager who had just broken into the first team, having previously made 13 appearances for Van Gaal in 15/16 season. He spent last season on loan and played in total 35 games for Granada starting in 34 of those, with an average 80 minutes per game.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]This was the game time he was looking for, which would have been impossible if he had stayed also considering that Mourinho didn’t see him fit for the starting XI.[spacer height=”30px”]

“I love Andreas Pereira as a player and I would love to have him in my squad, but he will go to Granada.”[spacer height=”20px”]

– Jose Mourinho[/perfectpullquote]

[spacer height=”30px”]These were the words when Jose Mourinho decided to send him on loan during his first season as the manager. According to Metro News, Andreas Pereira decided to leave on loan again and not fight for a place in starting XI. Jose Mourinho criticized this move stating, [spacer height=”30px”]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]

Andreas Pereira was a personal decision, a decision I don’t agree with, a decision I don’t think honestly is the best decision for him,[spacer height=”20px”]

A decision that disappoints me a little bit because I think he has the potential to be fighting for a position, fighting to for opportunities and to be a Manchester United player.”[spacer height=”20px”]

– Jose Mourinho[/perfectpullquote]

[spacer height=”30px”]Valencia move proved to be good one with Andreas Pereira playing in 23 games in an injury prone season, with a goal and 3 assists he played an important role in securing a Champions League spot for Valencia.[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]But in this mediocre pre-season he seemed to be a rare bright spark with most of the probable XI not playing a part in the tour. Andreas has scored twice in this Int. Champions Cup playing in all three and being given 90 minutes every match, which is a rare scene in any pre-season for any club. [spacer height=”30px”]

This showed that Mourinho wanted to see more of him when most of the playing XI was holidaying. The ability to get into the areas and create as well as score for the team. So Mourinho is all set to give him a chance in the starting eleven, Pereira also confirming his position for the season. [spacer height=”30px”]

[perfectpullquote align=”full” bordertop=”false” cite=”” link=”” color=”” class=”” size=””]

My best position now is as a number six. Mr. Mourinho put me there and he can see things that others can’t see. I’m happy as a six and will continue trying my best there.”

[spacer height=”30px”]POSITIONING OF ANDREAS PEREIRA[spacer height=”20px”]

Pereira’s ability to adapt to any position makes him the ultimate choice for the manager. During his past two seasons on loan in La Liga he has been used either on the right or the left flank, which being his natural position. Andreas Pereira is best suited up front, an attacking midfielder but now since he and Jose have both admitted that he would be mostly used as number six. But in number six position which mainly involves the heavy work of doing all the running, tackles and winning the ball in the midfield. [spacer height=”30px”]

Pereira will be mainly tested in the physical area where he might just fall short, because Premier League compared to other top leagues is more physical and his loan spells might not help here.[spacer height=”30px”]
