Arsenal may have very little money, but they at least have one player everyone seems to want, Carl Jenkinson. Everyone it appears apart from Arsenal.
Arsenal are in negotiations with Crystal Palace for Wilfred Zaha and Celtic for Kieran Tierney and reports suggest that Carl Jenkinson is wanted by both.
That of course means that one of those pending deals will have to revert to cash only and that is going to make life exciting for Arsenal’s accountants and negotiators.
At best, one hopes Jenkinson favours a London move purely to offset the vast amount Palace are asking for, but it simply won’t be enough to negate the type of fee they have in mind.
Anyone expecting Arsenal to claw back some much needed cash from Jenko’s departure is going to be disappointed, but how much would he secure elsewhere ? £5m, maybe a bit more for a 27 year old who never really established himself in the Arsenal setup.
He’s been an unlucky player since his move in 2011 and whilst covering for Bacary Sagna, he sustained a back injury, he hardly featured again in 2011/12 season.
Things looked to be on the up the following season with an England call up, but it didn’t last long and Carl Jenkinson was farmed out to West Ham and Birmingham and his career has since fallen flat. In fairness, he hasn’t had a sustained run in the side and Arsenal’s defence has been dreadful since his move thus making him look worse than average.
That’s probably unkind because he is potentially better than Arsenal fans have seen, but he just isn’t trusted and when he did finally get a start last season, he was hideously outpaced on occasion which makes him unsuitable as a stand in for Bellerin at right back.

Emery has seen enough to realise that Jenkinson had to go if the right offer came along. It’s unclear if the interest is anything more than wishful thinking or the press just rolling the dice, but he has no future at the Emirates and should be allowed a way out to prevent him wasting his career.
If he can be used in the transfer of a potential Emery target, his time at Arsenal would have been well served and at least he is wanted, unlike Ozil, Mkhitaryan or Mustafi.
