According to recent reports from media outlets in Italy, Arsenal are now dispassionate in signing Cengiz Under from AS Roma. It is speculated that this lack of interest is due to the high valuation of the player by the Italian club.
It is reported that the Italian side have set the price tag for the Turkish international at a staggering £45 million. This is reportedly well above Arsenal’s valuation of the player.
The Turk has put up some splendid performances in Serie A this season. Cengiz Under has appeared in a total of 23 games for the Serie A side and has contributed by half a dozen each of goals and assists across all competitions.
The 21-year-old ‘s contract at the Italian club runs down till 2022. Therefore, AS Roma is under no pressure to sell him in the January transfer window.
The Turkish International is a natural dribbler of the ball and can play on both the flanks. Under has genuine pace and can penetrate defenses at will. Although untested at the highest level, the young talent has shown glimpses of his potential at the Italian club.
Cengiz Under has represented his country 17 times and found the back of the net on 4 occasions. His pace and creativity in the middle regions and his forte at finding the net or setting up his team-mates for a goal has made him a vital cog for the Serie A giants.
Arsenal apparently had scouts at the Roma Plzen game tonight to watch Roma winger Cengiz Ünder.

The Turkish winger is a bright talent ready to be nurtured and developed into world-class prospect. The Italian side’s valuation of the player at £45 million is reasonable given the high inflation in the transfer market in the recent years.
Cengiz Under can play at multiple positions; on either flank and as an attacking midfielder and his style of play would definitely match Unai’s tactics. Arsenal lack quality wingers in their side. It is quite startling that a side with no natural wingers would pull out of the race to sign a bright prospect.
Given their financial strength and the close competitiveness for a top 4 finish in the League, it was expected of the Gunners to lead the race for signing the Roma forward.
It looks like another major setback for Arsenal in signing their primary targets. Unai Emery will not be content with the current squad at his disposal and lack of major signings will worsen the mood. Arsenal have been marred of the services of Mkhitariyan due to injury which has forced Mesut Ozil to play as a right-winger.
The player-manager feud and uncertain and sudden injuries have further made the wing position uninhabited. This pullout might have severe impacts on Arsenal’s top 4 finish and on their chances of laying hands on The Europa League Silverware.
