Arsenal Receive Transfer Boost as Real Madrid Put £34m Price Tag on Spanish Midfielder

Marco Asensio, Arsenal

The winter transfer window is a few weeks away and the big European clubs are already linked to various players. Arsenal are no different, with Mikel Arteta already finalising a few names to sustain the club’s rise in the points table. One of the names linked with the club is Real Madrid’s Marco Asensio.

Arsenal have improved drastically as the new season continues to progress. Having lost their opening three Premier League fixtures, including a 2-0 loss to newly-promoted side Brentford, the Gunners currently have an eight-match unbeaten streak in the league and 10 across all competitions.

The North London club have kept five clean sheets in eight league matches during this unbeaten run. The club’s new signings, Ramsdale, White, and Tomiyasu, have played a major role in overturning the fortunes of the club. Now the manager wants to focus on attack and bring in a right-winger into the squad.

Nicolas Pepe has not been able to impress Arteta, and the Spanish boss has relied more on Bukayo Saka for the position. Arsenal are therefore looking at different options, including Spanish winger Marco Asensio. According to El Nacional (via HITC), Real Madrid have put a price tag of €40 million (£34.24 million) on the player and are willing to let go of the 25-year-old if they receive the right offer.

The 24-year-old still has some years left in his contract at Real Madrid, which runs till 2023. El Nacional stated earlier that, apart from Arsenal, Liverpool were also interested in signing Asensio. The Spanish player has missed a few games early on in the season due to injuries.

He seems to have fallen out of order at the Bernabeu. He has made 10 appearances this season, but started just four of those games and never played a full match. In one of those games against RCD Mallorca, his former team, Asensio scored a hat trick. But this again has been the only game where he scored goals.

The Madrid number 11 was a key figure under former manager Zidane, having made 21 starts in La Liga last season. In total, Marco Asensio played 35 games in the league, scoring 5 goals and providing 2 assists. He has won both the La Liga and the Champions League twice with Madrid. At the international level, he won the 2015 U-19 Euro Championship in 2015 and also has 25 caps with the senior Spanish team, winning a Silver medal at the Tokyo Olympics in 2020.

Marco Asensio is still young and has the potential to become much better if given the right opportunities. Moreover, he earns just around £117,000-per-week, so wages should not be a problem if Arteta and Arsenal do decide to bring the Spanish midfielder to England. They could even try to bring him in January itself, with no improvement shown in Pepe’s performances.
