Next season is already starting to look better for Arsenal fans with manager Unai Emery beginning a much-needed clear-out of players and new signings such as Ryan Fraser being talked about. One piece of news that could be the best of all though, is the recent promotion of Gunners legend Freddie Ljungberg to the role of assistant coach.
Ljungberg only joined the coaching set-up at the Emirates last summer and guided the Under-23 team to second place in their respective league. This success has obviously caught Emery’s eye and persuaded him to move Ljungberg up the ranks quickly.
But, why is this such an inspired move to cause excitement among all Arsenal fans?
Ljungberg Is A Winner
There is no doubt that Arsenal are looking for a way to bridge the gap on teams such as Manchester City and Liverpool right now. Currently, the Gunners have around 30/1 odds with many of the bookies shown at BonusSeeker to win the Premier League next year.

It is hoped that Ljungberg’s involvement will help bring these odds down or at least make Champions League spot more attainable. At heart, he is a winner, and this mentality should hopefully rub off on the current players when he works with them.
More First-team Football For Youngsters
With a relatively small budget for transfers this summer, Emery looks set to use more of the young talent already at Arsenal next year. Many believe that having Ljungberg as an assistant coach will help make this easier and more effective.
He has in-depth knowledge of the young Arsenal players who may be ready to step into the first team and will be there to make the transition easier for them. Of course, this is also great financial news for the club itself as promoting more young players into the side avoids spending big money on transfer fees and sign-on bonuses frequently.
The knock-on effect is that when a truly world-class player becomes available, Arsenal will have plenty of the money needed to buy them and be ready to swoop.
Ljungberg Is An Arsenal Man
As a player, Ljungberg spent nine seasons at Arsenal and gave his best years to the club. He gave some memorable performances and was part of the “Invincibles” side, which endeared him to the Arsenal fans.
Being promoted to a more senior role is great news for supporters, who will now feel that there is someone around the first team who understands their club. Ljungberg knows Arsenal’s heritage and the way that fans like the team to play – with him close to Emery, it could mean that this information is taken on by him as well. Of course, it is also just a feel-good decision for supporters, who can enjoy a former hero being back to cheer.

While the 2018/19 season was solid enough for Arsenal, many fans still seem unsure over Emery. The appointment of Ljungberg will hopefully help to ease fans’ worries and reassure them that someone they hold dear, is there to drive improvements next year.
If he can use his vast experience of both Premier League and international football to its fullest, then his impact could prove wonderful for Arsenal next year.
