Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea | Five Things To Know As Gunners Defeated London Rivals In Some Fashion.

Chelsea,Arsedevils

[spacer height=”20px”]Petr Cech rolled back the golden years of his career against his former side, as Arsenal beat Chelsea at penalties in International Champions Cup.  As expected it was a very busy afternoon for the veteran shot stopper , who faced his old club and made a string of spectacular saves to deny a series of blue wave and once again make his presence felt by sending a strong message to Unai Emery regarding the No.1 position.

Chelsea started the game brightly and were provided with a huge boost by Callum Hudson-Odoi’s performance which led to the corner inside 5mins which played a huge role in the crucial opning goal of the game. Cesc Fabregas wasted no time in floating a delicious cross into the box , only for Antonio Rudiger to react the quickest and lose his marker in the form of Emil Smith-Rowe who started ahead of Aaron Ramsey after the latter had picked up an injury during warm up,making it 1-0 for Chelsea.

17 year old chelsea winger Hudson-Odoi ran riot down the left flank keeping Bellerin on his toes , eventually tempting Bellerin into a rash tackle which led to the first spot kick of the match. Alvaro Morata stepped up to take the penalty hopeful of ending his goal drought , only to see his effort palmed away by Cech. Only other thing keeping Chelsea at bay apart from an inform Petr Cech was Morata’s finishing.

At the other end Chelsea lacked the pace in midfield to contain a rejuvenated Mesut Ozil and Henrikh Mkhitaryan who were picking up the ball and driving at the Chelsea defence. The duo combined brilliantly to find Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang who missed a golden opportunity to slot it home at the back post. At the stroke of half time Hudson-odoi was again at the heart of chelsea attack , this time connecting with Chelsea’s new signing Jorginho who chipped the ball into the path of the 17 year old , only for Cech to once again come of his line and take the sting out of the shot, with Mustafi clearing the ball of the line.

Arsenal pushed hard in search of an equaliser, in front of a packed house that felt no less like a home game for the gunners against chelsea. Inspite of all the effort there were very little progress inside the 6 yard box. On the other side Rudiger again proved to be a danger in the air when he latched onto another beautiful cross from another spaniard Pedro, only to miss the target by inches, almost making it 2-0 for Chelsea.  In the 65 minute Alex Iwobi was introduced which added a sense of urgency among the players. The Nigerian International had his shots blocked by Caballero and his replacement Marcin Bulka.

In the final minutes of the game Arsenal went all out attack and a crafty pass from Arsenals new No.10 found Nelson open on the right hand side only for him to send a pin point pass towards Lacazette who could not miss from point blank range , even after letting go of a couple of chances earlier. FULL TIME!! Arsenal 1-1 Chelsea.

Even though this was a friendly against Chelsea, it did live up to its expectations of a derby game with free flow attack and late drama. Many would say Chelsea were missing their core members with the likes of Hazard, Willian, Kante still rehabilitating themselves after the world cup but there were a lot of positives Unai Emery could look at going towards the start of the campaign.

FIVE THINGS TO NOTE ABOUT THE GAME :-

[spacer height=”20px”]

1. Stephan Lichtsteiner should start ahead of Bellerin

[spacer height=”10px”]

Hector Bellerin over the years has proved that he is one of the fastest wing backs in the world, yet what he gained in pace he lacks in experience and it seemed so against Chelsea. He suffered one of the most fustrating nights of his short career, with his inability to track back when players run beyond him and his rash tackle inside the box only indicated he was on the verge of something much worse if things didn’t go according to his plans.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”20px”]

Lichtsteiner being a far more experienced wing back would add a sense of calmness to the defensive line and in the years to come would not only help mould Bellerin into one of the best wing back but also provide a sense of assurance and remove another defensive flaw.

[spacer height=”30px”]

2. Cech has a point to prove

[spacer height=”10px”]

With the new signing of Bernd Leno there were speculation of Cech returning to the blue side of london, but it seems like when the whole world was caught up with the FIFA World Cup , Cech was preparing hard for the upcoming season. By the looks of it the veteran keeper has no interest on leaving Arsenal and has no indications, if anything after this splendid performance against his former team , Cech only stamped his authority as the No.1. Better watch out Bernd, Cech is in for the long haul.

[spacer height=”30px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]

3. Rejuvenated Ozil

[spacer height=”10px”]

Fresh from controversially inclined international retirement Ozil has come to Arsenal with a lot of optimism and in a a lot ways feels like he has a point to prove, this could mean well for Gunners faithful who have been crying for the German magician to come and play his heart out and he did exactly that against Chelsea. If this performance is anything to go by, then Ozil has very well come to Arsenal like a completely new player and with new desires.

[spacer height=”20px”]

[spacer height=”30px”]

4. Ramsey Saga

[spacer height=”10px”]

There have been speculations of Aaron Ramsey heading towards Chelsea, thus it is hard for one to believe with so much surrounding a player would he play against a club which he might call his home in the near future. Thus an injury scare was the perfect justification for that. This seems like a perfect transfer plot which could end poorly for Arsenal. Never the less I would love to see Ramsey don the Captains band at the start of the season and the combination of Ramsey and Özil feeding our two strikers is mouth watering.

[spacer height=”30px”]

5. Youngsters stepping up

[spacer height=”30px”]

With Aaron Ramsey pulling out at the last moment during the practice session before Chelsea game,Emile-Smith Rowe grabbed the opportunity with both his hands and showed glimspes of what his potential are, coming back after two excellent performances against top quality side at the Internatioanl Cup Championship. He has been making sure that the new boss takes notice of his performance which could earn him a starting spot in the playing 11 in the upcoming season like he got against Chelsea in this match.

[spacer height=”30px”]

Win against Chelsea will help the mentality the Gunners need before they face Champions Manchester City next week as Premier League kicks off. Unai Emery will be pleased with the team’s performances so far in the pre-season games and will look forward to take this form into the new season.
