Arsenal flops lose any hope of a Champions league slot against plucky Brighton.

Brighton, Arsenal Vs Brighton

1 point from 12 matches says it all. 10 goals conceded and only 3 goals scored in their last four Premier League matches also narrate a story. Arsenal have flattered to deceive at times but against Brighton in their final match at the Emirates, they were exposed as a collection of cowards who lacked quality and ambition.

Arsenal headed into the game with three consecutive Premier League defeats at the hands of Crystal Palace, Wolves and Leicester City.

Some individuals have acquitted themselves reasonably well but, not many. If you pushed me to name names of those who haven’t embarrassed themselves, then Leno, Sokratis, Lacazette, Aubameyang, Guendouzi and Torreira would avoid the bullet.

Other than that, these overpaid, pampered, non achievers don’t deserve to wear an Arsenal shirt or play in the Champions League. The squad, as we all knew before a ball was kicked wasn’t good enough by some distance.

In a week where fans paid tribute to Arsenal legend David Rocastle on his Birthday, this new generation lacked his pride, his talent and passion.

I’m not going to spend a lot of time trying to make Arsenal’s match against Brighton sound better than it was or waste time looking for positives which don’t exist. Arsenal have played Brighton twice and drawn twice.

The seagulls are only still in the Premier League because of Cardiff’s endless misfortune which began in the middle of the season.

It’s high time that Arsenal found a way past these low end teams that just suffocate and counter attack. As tactics go, this strategy is tired, worn and basic but against Arsenal, it has proved successful season after season.

Arsenal have no plan ‘B’ and can’t seem to create enough openings to bury the opposition even with a host of supposedly talented, well paid individuals.

Worse still Arsenal players went on a lap of appreciation after the Brighton game but under the circumstances, it seemed pointless. Suddenly, I realised how inappropriate the gesture was and how disconnected the club was from its fans.

It would have been a lap of honour had the players earned it but, appreciation was almost mocking for the supporters, who yet again have endured a spineless Arsenal collapse.

For those who are still interested , Aubameyang gave Arsenal the lead from the penalty spot after 9 minutes.
Glenn Murray deservedly replied for Brighton (61) with a penalty conversion, after Granit Xhaka decided to swing off the shoulder of March like a gibbon on the back of a passing banana truck.

How the players must have wished they were still in March with everything still to play for, instead of collapsing in April, the month of fools.

Late on, Brighton could have got all three points after Leno’s save from a March header and Gross made a hash of the rebound.

The game was really incidental because Arsenal delivered another insipid performance with a jittery defence and an unimaginative midfield that couldn’t provide for its strike force.

I think I’m going to be angry until the new season commences and not even winning the Europa league will appease me.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
