Arsenal Express Interest in €40m Rated Dutch Right-back, Club Propose January Swap Deal

Denzel Dumfries, Manchester United, Erik ten Hag, Arsenal

According to reports in Italy, Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Inter Milan right-back Denzel Dumfries in the winter transfer window. The Serie A side could be willing to sell the defender if they receive the right price while the Gunners are looking to propose a swap deal for the player.

Denzel Dumfries has impressed with his performances for the Netherlands in the Qatar World Cup. He put on a masterclass display against the USA in the Round of 16 of the World Cup. He provided 2 assists and scored 1 goal in the 3-1 win against the Americans.

The Dutchman has been a key player for the Italian club too, appearing in all league games. He made 13 starts in 15 Serie A games, scoring once and assisting three times. He also featured in 5 Champions League games. He has been excellent but he might perform even better in different conditions or team setups.

According to Calciomercatoweb (via The Hard Tackle), Arsenal have joined the race for Inter Milan defender Denzel Dumfries. The North London side want to reinforce the right-back position and are looking to make a January move for the Dutch player.

Moreover, the Italian news outlet reports the Italian side could make the 26-year-old defender available for a transfer if the right price is paid. I Nerazzurri are looking to balance their finances and would consider selling the Dutchman if the Gunners are willing to pay €40 million for the player.

Meanwhile, as reported by The Express, the North London club have proposed a cash-plus-player deal in exchange for the Dutch international. Arsenal are willing to part ways with Takehiro Tomiyasu in exchange for Denzel Dumfries. However, Inter are not interested in the Japanese defender and would be happier if the English club made a cash transaction.

Takehiro Tomiyasu is facing an injury crisis and is finding it difficult to get some consistent minutes under his belt. Although Ben White has stepped up well in the right-back position, it is still not enough if the Gunners aim on winning silverware this season. Their left-back situation is sorted since both the players are quality options, challenging each other to start the game.

It goes without saying that the Gunners are not the only ones who are interested in the signing the 26-year-old full-back. Premier League sides Chelsea and Tottenham are also vying for his signature while Man United manager Erik ten Hag is pushing to bring the defender to Old Trafford.

The right-back position is being given priority by the manager in the upcoming transfer window. The addition of Dumfries can help Mikel Arteta as the Spanish manager does have other areas to be worried about. Arsenal are currently on top of the Premier League table and will need to sort this situation to hold on to that position.

Why Have Arsenal Identified Denzel Dumfries As The One Who Can Solve Their Right-Back Problems?

Denzel Dumfries is a player who does not shy away from going forward and attacking the spaces that are created by the forwards. His aggressive style of play makes him a difficult player to mark. Moreover, he does not slow down a bit during the match and covers the complete right flank. His attacking side does not compromise with his defensive responsibilities of the game as he is quick to fall back.

The Dutchman is sometimes even the most advanced player in the penalty area. He likes to hold his width as he rarely comes in the middle of the park except when marking his man. In addition, Dumfries is also a strong man in the air and wins most of his aerial duels which can help Arsenal to handle long balls.

However, it seems that his abilities of going forward are being limited at Inter Milan. With the help of Arteta, the Dutch full-back might be able to reach his best again in terms of attacking output. Moreover, it is possible that Dumfries might enjoy playing in the Premier League as it is more physical than the Serie A which suits his playing style.

Inter Milan demanding €40 million for the 26-year-old will be a bargain in the long run as the player carries a lot more potential waiting to be utilised. The Gunners should seal the deal and look for options for the Japanese fight-back if they want to lower the net spend.

There is also an alternative of making Denzel Dumfries and Ben White the permanent right-back options, and selling both Tomiyasu and Cedric Soares if Arsenal need more financial security.
