Arsenal Identify £20m Rated Everton Star As Hector Bellerin Replacement; Player Could Cement Arsenal’s Back Four For Years

Jonjoe Kenny, Arsenal

Hector Bellerin has multiple options in front of him as he contemplates leaving his right-back role at the Emirates and with that in mind, a replacement for the Spaniard is in the mix of growing priorities. A few names have been linked with Arsenal, but one that intrigues me is that of Everton’s 24-year-old Jonjoe Kenny.

The Everton full-back was on loan at Celtic since January but returned to his parent club at the end of the season. With Bellerin being fancied by Inter Milan to replace the outgoing Achraf Hakimi, with Real Betis and Atletico Madrid also being interested, Jonjoe Kenny is being considered at Arsenal as the Gunners look for a host of new signings.

Having watched footage of the player in action, he is growing on me for his ability to defend astutely and hold his position, something Bellerin has never really possessed. Hector’s lightning pace was his saving grace but after successive injuries, he has lost a yard, and without the eye of a natural and instinctive defender he has struggled.

His replacements, Chambers, and Cedric have generally been no better than average and I can only remember two occasions when each put in a good shift, therefore Arteta needs to recruit from outside. Jonjoe Kenny looks the part, he’s quick to attack, has a good eye, and can deliver a telling pass, but he also looks an upgrade at the back for probably half the price Bellerin would fetch in the transfer market.

He’s strong, agile, good in the air, and has that fearlessness about him that would represent a greater obstacle to the opposition. I would certainly try my luck in pricing the youngster away from Everton to add him to the likes of Ben White, Gabriel, and Kieran Tierney who together in a back four seem very appealing.

I suppose the big worry at present defensively is finding cover for the injury-ravaged Kieran Tierney, but it’s feasible they could cover both positions for just £20m plus which would be extremely good business.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
