Arsenal continue the clear out but it’s not over yet as the new regime plot their incoming transfer targets for the next window

Arsenal, Saliba, football

We’ve already seen a more streamline and ruthless Arsenal from the beginning of the Emery era and now Edu has arrived to join Sanllehi and Venkatesham, the planned cull shows no signs of ending anytime soon.

Sentiment seems to be a dirty word as Arsenal severed ties that were unlikely under Wenger. Firstly Wilshere, who’s career continues to be blighted by injuries and looks likely to never fullfil his potential was told that his contract would not be extended.

Next, it was the turn of Aaron Ramsey, who incidentally is injured again after his move to Juventus. Most Arsenal fans were openly upset by his departure, but he is so injury prone that if he played 20 games a season it would be a miracle.

Danny Welbeck was also packed off to pastures new without even being given the opportunity to say goodbye in the traditional sense.

Cech returned to Chelsea before the final in Baku, I’ll say no more on that subject.

He was followed by contract rebel Laurent Koscielny who was shown the door when he refused to rejoin the Arsenal squad after its pre-season tour of the US and more recently we’ve seen the back of Nacho Monreal, who had become half the player he was when he joined Arsenal in 2013.

Elneny is finally off the books and is now on loan to Besiktas with an eventual transfer fee of around £18m (nice).

The final cull of this summer transfer window came for Henrikh Mkhitaryan who secured a deadline day loan deal to Roma for the season

Of the rest, Mustafi and Ozil are obvious exits from Emirates in the pending transfer tray and you could add Xhaka, Chambers and Kolasinac to that list.

Why not , they’ve been like a stationary black taxi with the meter running for a few seasons and about as productive. Sokratis could also be cast aside within a season or so because of a combination of his desire to play elsewhere and his age.

Incomings for Arsenal are Saliba when fit and free from his loan spell, possibly Zaha, but that’s 4.5 in terms of popular speculation. Then expect one more central defender and a playmaker which should see the team transformed.

There may be room for a few more, but less of what was already there.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
