Arsenal Eyeing a Lucrative Swap Deal With Barcelona and Its Not For Aubameyang

Emerson Royal, Hector Bellerin

According to The Athletic, Hector Bellerin has made up his mind to leave Emirates this summer, but the player has grown frustrated at the club’s reluctance and failure to work on his demands with the transfer deadline day approaching fast. Now, to facilitate a transfer, Arsenal are looking at a possible swap deal with Barcelona involving Hector Bellerin and Emerson Royal.

The 26-year old Spanish right-back still has two years left on his current deal, but he believes his time is up at the Emirates. Manager Mikel Arteta and Technical Director Edu have both been notified of the Spaniard’s desire, and Bellerin is even prepared to take a pay cut if it helps materialise a transfer.

The Gunners were also preparing a new contract for the full-back alongside Granit Xhaka. Although the Swiss midfielder decided on staying in North London, Bellerin is fixated on a move away after spending a decade at the club.

Bellerin was heavily linked with Inter Milan but the Italian champions couldn’t match Arsenal’s demands and the deal could not go forward. There was also talk of a swap deal involving him and Lautaro Martinez with the Argentinian joining the North London outfit.

It is now being reported that to meet the player’s desire, the Gunners are now exploring options to offload the player and get potentially a good return themselves. Arsenal are considering bringing in Emerson Royal from Barcelona for Hector Bellerin in a swap deal.

Emerson signed for Barcelona in June and is now a registered La Liga player. The Catalans bought the right-back from Real Betis for €9m, where he played for two and a half years. The 22-year-old made his debut for the Blaugrana last weekend when he came in as a late substitute during Barcelona’s 4-2 victory over Real Sociedad.

The La Liga giants do have Sergino Dest as their primary right-back, Sergio Roberto too can slot into the position as he has done in previous campaigns. Thus, regular game-time is quite tricky for the Brazilian at Camp Nou. However, the player is well aware of Barca’s ability to challenge for multiple trophies and the fact that the manager will have to consider the rotation of the squad in what can be a long season.

Hector Bellerin has become a stagnant player while Emerson Royal is a talent with huge potential to shine at Camp Nou. Moreover, Barcelona, who bought the right-back this summer, would shy away from a potential swap deal for the out-of-favour Spaniard. They have assembled all the missing pieces in the team and would not want to complicate things as of now.

While Bellerin might be frustrated, he still has two years left on his contract and despite being a La Masia graduate, Barcelona would be hesitant to bet on Hector Bellerin over Emerson Royal. However, if Arsenal does manage to get the deal through, it would certainly be a great move for the team, rather, a much-needed one.

The Gunners would need a natural replacement before offloading the Spanish right-back. Callum Chambers is certainly not the answer to their right-back woes, which was evident in their 2-0 defeat to Brentford in the Premier League. Emerson Royal, who is just 22-years of age, still has his best years ahead of him and a swap deal certainly makes things work out in Arsenal’s favour.

Mikel Arteta is already under pressure after losing the first game of the season, which again was a huge disappointment for the fans. Again, it was the defence that appeared as the most vulnerable aspect against the Bees, Arteta needs to sort out the defensive issues before the Premier League season picks up its pace.
