Arsenal Have Initiated Talks With €35m Forward’s Agent, Club Ready to Sell Player in January

Dejan Kulusevski, Arsenal

December is here and clubs are gearing up to finalise their January signings. Arsenal reinforced their defence and midfield in the summer, and are looking to go after forwards in this transfer window. Various sources have linked winger Dejan Kulusevski with a move to Arsenal, but recent reports offer a major update to this transfer rumour.

Various news outlets have reported Arsenal’s interest in the Juventus player. Previously, Italian journalist Di Marzio stated that Arsenal are highly interested in Dejan Kulusevski and have initiated enquiries to sign him. He also added that the club had zeroed in on the player with Arteta wanting new signings in the attack.

Meanwhile, Italy’s Tutto Juve claimed that the 21-year-old forward could exit Juventus in January itself. It reported a three-way battle for his signature between Arsenal, Tottenham and Atletico Madrid. It also stated that Juventus could let him go for around €35m.

Another source linking the Gunners with the Swedish international is Tutto Mercato Web, which reported that Arsenal were favourites to sign Kulusevski. They claimed that the North London outfit could sign him for around €30m, with Spurs also after his signature.

However, Gianluca di Marzio has provided a major update to this transfer saga, doubling down on his previous claim. The Italian journalist claims (via Daily Cannon) Arsenal to have initiated talks with Kulusevski’s agents, with Juventus setting a price tag on him. He said:

“Arsenal want him. They had the first contact with the agents, Juventus [would sell] him for €35m plus bonus.

“So it depends on how much Arsenal want to invest on this player. But I know that the first contacts are made.”

This certainly does not bore well for Spurs. In truth, the Gunners were already ahead in the race to sign the Swedish international, with the player stating earlier about his favourite team being Arsenal. While speaking on Swedish podcast Lundh in 2019, he said:

“My favourite team is Arsenal because I like everything about the club, the city, the players and the way they play football.”

It is quite evident that Dejan Kulusevski has fallen out of favour at Juventus under Allegri. The stats of him featuring 18 times for the Bianconeri this season across all competitions is misleading. Those 18 appearances comprise a total of 597 minutes with just three starts, one in each of the last three months.

With the player being unhappy with his playing time in Turin, a January move looks likely and undoubtedly, there will be multiple suitors. The former Parma player is primarily a right-winger but can play centrally as well as on the left. Arsenal need to wrap this deal before more clubs line up for his signature.
