According to reports, Arsenal are interested in signing Inter Milan’s defender Federico Dimarco in this summer transfer window. The Gunners want to bolster their left-back position, having missed out on the ticket to the Champions League next season and have identified the Italian defender as a potential option.
Manager Mikel Arteta is looking for a major squad overhaul and increasing the depth of the defensive line is one such priority. The Gunners were left light in the full-back positions during the 2021/22 season, with multiple first-team players spending months on the sidelines.
Kieran Tierney’s season ended early due to a knee injury. Meanwhile, Nuno Tavares struggled to put up a consistent display for the North London side. Thus, the Spanish manager is seeking to bring in cover for the backline before kick-starting the 2022-23 season.
As reported in the The Sun, Arsenal are interested in the services of Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco. Moreover, the Gunners are looking to set up a move to sign the 24-year-old and have already made inquiries over a potential deal, according to Italian outlet Tutto Mercato Web (via HITC).
However, Inter Milan are reluctant to sell the left-back and have slapped a £20 million price tag on their defender. The asking price for Federico Dimarco is somewhat beyond the budget of Arsenal, as they don’t want to spend such a big amount on a player who would not play week in, week out.
According to reports, Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco is being targeted by Arsenal as extra back-up to Kieran Tierney. 🎯

The defender is a naturally gifted left-footed player who is used to playing as a wing-back or even a left midfielder. With Tierney being the only full-back to shoulder the responsibility for the left-hand side of the defence, Arteta is keen on recruiting the Inter defender as a backup for Tierney.
Moreover, he is yet to establish himself as a regular under coach Simone Inzaghi at the San Siro. Therefore, the Gunners won’t be looking to spend heavily on a player who is not a first-teamer yet. The 24-year-old has scored twice and assisted five times in 42 appearances (stats via Transfermarkt) in all competitions.
Former footballer and sports pundit, Paul Merson, in his Daily Star column, emphasized Mikel Arteta’s squad and mentioned what signings he should make this summer to make Arsenal compete for the top honours:
“Mikel Arteta needs to prove he can be an elite manager like Antonio Conte next season. But he needs another good window right now to start with.”
“The next few players Arsenal buys need to be experienced professionals in my opinion, ideally 28 or 29 years old. They have a lorryload of promising youngsters but they froze when it came to the crunch. They’ve got to get some experience in the team.”
