Arsenal Targeting £34m Bundesliga Hitman; is he the Ideal Lacazette Replacement?

Andre Silva, Arsenal

According to the Transfer Window Podcast (via Metro), Arsenal have expressed interest in signing Portuguese international Andre Silva from Eintracht Frankfurt this summer. Reports suggest that the North London club have already begun talks over the striker’s transfer.

Silva had an exceptional season in the Bundesliga last campaign. The 25-year-old finished the season as the second-highest goalscorer in the league at 28 goals, one better than third-best, and the highly coveted Erling Haaland. He is currently on international duty with Portugal for Euro 2020.

With Arsenal reportedly planning a summer overhaul, adding the Frankfurt man into their ranks seems rational. Moreover, Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah are two players Arsenal can offload to inject more cash into the squad rebuilding process.

What better names can the Red and White of London come across than a striker who has 39 goal involvements in 34 appearances at The Waldstadion. Silva outperformed his Expected Goals(xG) and Expected Assists(xA) by 3.07 and 1.05 which certainly makes him an even more appealing target to keep an eye on.

As a consequence of his exceptional displays, the former Sevilla man has caught the eyeballs of many clubs across Europe. While some reports suggested that the Gunners have only shown “interest” in him, English journalist Duncan Castles went a step ahead by saying that Arsenal have told Andre Silva that “they have to sell before they can bring him in.”

The Portuguese striker comes with bags of experience having already plied his trade in Germany, Italy, Spain, and Portugal. Thus, proving his impressive quality of adaptation to new leagues and countries. With the £34m price tag that is being quoted by several reports, it can prove to be a steal for the North London outfit.

A young, experienced player of international pedigree at that cost can prove to be an exceptional piece of business. However, Arsenal would have to fight their way to land the signature of Andre Silva, who has also caught the attention of Premier League champions Manchester City.

His underlying metrics prove that he is a player of extraordinary abilities. The Gunners can certainly do better with a younger striker, who is more prolific than any of the forwards they currently have in their books. If you were to put his qualities in a bag, you will come up with goal-poaching, chance creating, pinpoint penalty-kicks, and the cheeky nutmegs crammed up together.

The 25-year-old is already the most lethal Portuguese striker the Bundesliga ever had. If Arsenal sign him, they can expect him to fire goals from the get-go as he has already proved that he is a nomad, who quickly makes himself feel at home.
