Can Arsenal Fans Dream of Seeing £63m Rated Former Star Back in an Arsenal Shirt Next Summer ?

The likelihood of Serge Gnabry making a comeback to the Emirates has got the Arsenal fans dreaming. They are already on cloud nine after seeing their team’s performance in the last few months. “Trust the process, we’ll get it right” – Mikel Arteta said this in a post-match interview after the quarter-final victory against Sheffield United in the FA Cup. The process might be finally bearing its fruits as the Gunners have won their last four games in the league and a top-four finish looks a possibility.

Arsenal hierarchy have already started planning ahead. They are plotting the moves for players who can take the Mikel Arteta project forward. Serge Gnabry is a proven player now and will be an asset for any team, including Arsenal. The fact that Arsenal have a history with him makes this transfer even more interesting.

Gnabry’s First Stint At Arsenal

The Arsenal outcast has developed into a star-studded winger in the German capital. The German forward came to the red side of London in 2016 under Arsene Wenger. The German then cost around £100,000 while according to the Transfermarkt he is now worth £63.00m. He made 18 appearances with the Arsenal shirt and was nominated for the Golden Boy award in 2013.

His progress at the North London club came to a halt after a knee injury. When he came back to the squad he found himself warming the bench. After that, he was loaned out to West Brom. Baggies then-manager Tony Pulis described him as an unworthy player for the Premier League. He managed to play just three games at the West Midland club and returned to Arsenal next season.

Back To Germany

Arsene Wenger then sold him to Werder Bremen for £4.50m. The resurgence of Gnabry came to the attention of German football giants Bayern Munich. Bayern bought him and decided to send him out on loan to TSG Hoffenheim where he got used to the Bundesliga style. He made his way back to the German capital after the expiry of loan period.

Serge Gnabry has now turned out to be a phenomenal winger in Europe. Europe’s giants for the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, Manchester United are all keeping close tabs because of his contract situation. Gnabry has now entered into the final 18 months of his contract and is insistent on a higher wage to stay at Bayern. He is also one of the players on Bayern’s list who are coming close to the end of their contracts. Joshua Kimmich, Leon Goretzka and Kingsley Coman have all signed long term contracts.

Gnabry, Manuel Neuer, Thomas Muller and Robert Lewandowski are on the verge of signing new contracts but a report from kicker suggests that progress is yet to be made on the deal with the winger.

What Did Gnabry Say About Arsenal?

Although, the German has given Arsenal fans hope of a stunning comeback to the Emirates. In 2019, in an interview with presenter and Arsenal fan Chunkz, he talked about his time at Arsenal.

“Always a Gooner though, always a Gooner,” said Gnabry. He recently teased the Arsenal fan network after sharing photos donning Arsenal’s retro jersey on his Instagram. Serge Gnabry regards Arsenal as a top club and misses his time at Colney. Though a dream comeback is still in the picture, a sky journalist tweeted of a 50:50 chance.

Considering the tweaks in the Arsenal squad, especially with the departure of Pierre Emerick-Aubameyang, the club has ample money to fit in his wage bill. Plus probable outgoing players such as Alexandre Lacazette, Eddie Nketiah and Mohammad Elneny Arsenal are in quite a sweet spot to bring him in.
