Arsenal Reportedly Targeting Five La Liga Stars in Planned Squad Overhaul

summer transfer window, Arsenal rebuild replacements, Gunners transfer window, next transfer window crucial

Numerous Arsenal players are headed or being pushed towards the exit door in Mikel Arteta’s planned Arsenal rebuild, meaning, if simply put, replacements are needed. Arsenal have their eyes set on five La Liga stars in a planned, upcoming squad overhaul.

Let’s take a look at the replacements that Arsenal are keeping an eye on for the rebuild this summer:

Unai Nunez

We all are aware of Arsenal’s defensive frailties and with some of Arsenal’s defenders potentially being moved on such as Sokratis and Shkodran Mustafi, we could see their replacement in the form of Unai Nunez. Unai Nunez is a young highly rated Spanish centre-back, currently playing for Athletic Bilbao.

The Athletic Bilbao defender has a relatively low release cause of £27m and has refused to sign an extension, according to Spanish publication AS via Metro. His name has been linked on and off with Arsenal and a move to the Emirates could be a shrewd defensive reinforcement for the side Arteta is trying to build.

Carlos Soler

Valencia are certainly having a disastrous season, already out of the Champions League, and Copa del Rey and their chances of qualifying for European football next season look very bleak. What better way to capitalise on this, than tempting one of Valencia’s most highly-rated players away?

Carlos Soler possesses the astute vision, precise passing ability, and great technical acumen. If reports are to be believed, head coach Mikel Arteta is keen on signing the Valencia defender and this could turn out to be a great move for the Gunners, especially due to his quality of being able to play on the left and the right-hand sides of midfield.

Thomas Partey

Regularly and routinely linked with the Gunners, Thomas Partey is one of Arsenal’s top transfer targets. With a release clause of around about £50m, the Atletico Madrid midfielder could prove to be the missing piece of Arsenal’s midfield puzzle and also, the top-class defensive midfielder Arsenal fans have long been crying out for.

Arsenal could raise funds for the transfer of the Ghanaian midfielder via the sale of Lacazette or even through a swap deal involving Lacazette, a player Atletico Madrid have held an interest in the past.

Pau Torres

Pau Torres is another name that has been linked with a transfer to the Emirates. Pau Torres is a highly rated 23-year-old central defender currently playing for Spanish side Villareal.

In a Marca interview back in February 2020, former Arsenal player and fan favourite, Santi Cazorla, was asked about his Villareal teammate:

“Do they ask you a lot from England about Samu Chukwueze and Pau Torres?”

This is what he said answered:

“Yeah, mainly my Arsenal friends. They ask me about them and they think that they can make the jump to the Premier League soon”

Samuel Chukwueze

Though he is not currently linked with Arsenal, Samuel Chukwueze has an interesting past with Arsenal. In actuality, the Villarreal winger had nearly agreed on a contract with Arsenal back in 2016 and in the words of the player himself:

“It was very close for me to sign for Arsenal, almost had the contract in my hands.”

With Cazorla’s comments above about Chukwueze and Pau Torres, mentioning interest in both players from Arsenal, we could see Arsenal make the Nigerian attacker, a player they came frustratingly close to signing previously, a potential transfer target. Moreover, both the players would be good replacements for Arsenal, especially for what they already have and would certainly help Arteta in the rebuild.
