Arsenal Lining up a £30m Bid For England International; Two Bids Rejected Already and Third Incoming

Liverpool vs Arsenal, Aaron Ramsdale, Arsenal

According to talkSPORT, Arsenal are preparing a bid believed to be around £30million for Sheffield United star Aaron Ramsdale.

The Gunners have been on the hunt for a backup goalkeeper for Bernd Leno since Maty Ryan’s six-month loan deal came to an end.

Although reports emerged that they would be willing to make the deal permanent, the Gunners were handed a blow when the Australian international and Celtic target instead signed for Spanish club Real Sociedad on a permanent basis.

Now, Arsenal look to have set their sights on Aaron Ramsdale, who got relegated with The Blades last season. He could be making a swift return to the Premier League by joining Arsenal in a multi-million pound deal.

The 23-year-old made England’s European Championship squad after Dean Henderson withdrew through injury. Although two bids for the Englishman has already been rejected, Arsenal don’t look to be going away for the player who’s gradually breaking through at the international stage.

Ramsdale’s former club Bournemouth inserted a sell-on clause on the deal with Sheffield United

talkSPORT transfer correspondent Alex Crook said,

“It is my understanding that Arsenal have made the Sheffield United ‘keeper their no.1 target. They’ve been linked with Sam Johnstone as well, but it’s all in now for Aaron Ramsdale.”

He continued, “I’m told they’ve already had two bids rejected for the former Bournemouth goalkeeper and they are lining up a third. The fee could be as much as £30million. That would be music to the ears of Bournemouth as they have a sell-on clause.”

It still remains to be seen whether Bernd Leno stays at the club or leaves. Technical director Edu’s search for one goalkeeping slot can be increased to twi if the German international decides to move away from the Emirates Stadium.

Personal viewpoint

Although I am more open to Ramsdale joining Arsenal than many Arsenal fans, the fee that is being quoted worries me. Maybe Arsenal will be better served by cheaper alternatives, especially when we have so many positions to strengthen at.

Newcastle United’s Freddie Woodman impressed at the Championship level last season with Swansea City and would be available for less than a third of what Sheffield United are asking for Ramsdale.

Previously linked David Raya has also caught my eye, but Brentford’s promotion might make the deal more complicated.

However, fans’ opinions matter little to the club obviously, and they believe Ramsdale has all the qualities to become a top goalkeeper at Arsenal. It is true that he’s better at his feet and good at punching away the danger than Leno, but 30m sounds perplexing.
