Arsenal now have the advantage over Manchester United to sign Marco Asensio from Real Madrid. The 26-year-old Spaniard is preparing to leave Real Madrid before the current transfer window closes. Asensio has his agents on standby in London who are ready to start talks with the technical director at Arsenal, Edu.
Marco Asensio has lost his place in the starting lineup at Real Madrid after the arrival of Italian manager Carlo Ancelotti. The Spaniard is now looking for a way out of the club despite having a contract with the Los Blancos till the summer of next season. The 26-year-old star player was once one of the key players at Madrid, having scored in the Champions League final of the 2016/17 season.
According to the Mirror, Arsenal are currently in pole position to land the Spanish winger. Real Madrid boss, Carlo Ancelotti has already made it clear that Asensio should explore his options elsewhere. As a consequence, many English teams have been interested in the three-time Champions League winner.
Arsenal only have two proper wingers in the form of Bukayo Saka and Gabriel Martinelli. The Gunners have the options of Emile Smith Rowe and Fabio Vieira, but they are not dedicated wingers. The North London club might need some backup in case a winger gets injured or suspended, which in fact was a big issue at Arsenal last season.

Arsenal have currently won all four of their opening games in the Premier League this season. They are the only team in the league with a perfect record so far. This suggests how far Arsenal have come since the appointment of Mikel Arteta as their manager. The Gunners now want to add more silverware to their cabinet and a winner like Asensio can help them achieve it.
Why Arsenal And Marco Asensio Can Be A Perfect Match?
As established before, Asensio can provide the required depth to the Arsenal forward line. The Spaniard will work hard to try to get himself selected in the starting lineup as much as possible. This can create healthy competition between Asensio and Bukayo Saka, eventually leading to better output from both players.
Asensio has won the Champions League three times at just 26 years of age. He has a lot of experience at the highest of levels and has played more finals than the current Arsenal players have at the moment. He can help these players to deliver their best in a big game by sharing his experience about how to be the difference maker in cup finals.

The 26-year-old winger is a technical player which Mikel Arteta prefers to have. However, the Spanish winger may take some time to get adjusted to the system at Arsenal. Asensio likes to cut in from the right-hand side, similar to what Bukayo Saka does – the only difference being Asensio can be a bit more versatile than Saka.
Marco Asensio was widely known for his long-shot goals scored with Real Madrid. It will be a real problem for Premier League goalkeepers, considering how accurate Asensio can be with his long shots. To add to that, he is also very good at holding onto the ball, which will be appreciated by Arteta as Arsenal do prefer to keep the ball majority of the time rather than playing on counters.
