Is The Ceballos Deal Dead in The Water After Reports Emerge of Arsenals Interest in £30m Marseille Midfielder

Dani Ceballos was thought to be in Mikel Arteta’s plans for next season but if reports from Le 10 Sport (via OneFootball) are to be believed, Arsenal are enquiring about Marseille midfielder Morgan Sanson (25). Arsenal are obviously at the top of the transfer rumours’ table and every story has to be taken with a considerable pinch of salt, but this target would be most welcome.

If Arsenal can’t buy or extend the loan of Ceballos, then Morgan Sanson would be a fantastic alternative. He’s a player that likes to get forward, embraces the ball, has great close control, and can score from distance with wickedly deceptive curlers.

He has a sure touch, a good engine, and will easily find Arsenal’s strikers with a slide-rule pass into space or by floating a ball over the top, but he also likes to advance forward with the ball.

I like what Ceballos had to offer last season but Sanson would just edge it for me at present, in terms of presence and style. He is an extremely classy looking performer who will improve Arsenal’s midfield overnight and at around £20.5m, he’s astonishingly cheap. He may not remain so once negotiations begin because other Premier League clubs have registered an interest and the final fee could be closer to £30m, still a bargain.

Thomas Partey is still said to be at the top of the club’s transfer wish list and that probably puts the other rumours in perspective. If Arsenal are going to close that deal it will require focused representation without any added distractions.

We also have to consider that Willian is coming to the Emirates and according to Catalan Sport via talkSPORT, Philippe Coutinho has signed a season-long loan. Until we know who Arsenal truly have at their disposal next season, it’s difficult to give the Morgan Sanson rumour any credibility.

However, these are exciting times for Arsenal fans as Arteta looks to add quality to his side. He has the basics such as teamwork and spirit, he now needs a flourishing squad to complement that.
