Arsenal are set to offer star duo Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette a fresh new contract after emerging as a silver lining to a sub par season.
The attacking duo have directly contributed to 67 goals across all competitions this season. Whilst Aubameyang secured the Premier League Golden Boot as the first Arsenal player to do so since Robin van Persie, Lacazette won them a grand total of 27 points this season. There’s no doubting the quality or importance of the striking pair.
And the club certainly seem to be aware of it as Daily Mail claim that the Gunners are lining up a £250,000-per-week deals for both of them. The Gabonese international is understood to be receiving a 2-year extension, prolonging his stay till 2023. Though the former Lyon striker’s extension period is unknown, it should be around the same time span.
As of now, the ex-Dortmund man’s contract expires in 2021 whilst the Frenchman’s lasts till 2022.
The North Londoners do not seem to be in any mood to risk what happened with Aaron Ramsey and are keen on tying their stars down before it gets too close for comfort.
Ramsey’s contract extension had been stalled for so long that both parties grew tired of the stagnant negotiations which eventually led to his departure to Juventus on a free transfer. It is likely that the Arsenal higher-ups are trying to repeat their mistake.
However, the implications of such a wage bump are still unknown. The wage of Mesut Özil is said to have put the club under financial pressure, thus his future could also be under doubt in such a situation.
Nevertheless, both Aubameyang and Lacazette seem to be enjoying life in London. The pair have formulated an excellent partnership on the pitch and seem to be a key figure in maintaining locker room morale. Moreover, both have shown they’re ready to make sacrifices for each other, which could only benefit the team.
Should they sign the contract, the French international would be 31-years-old by the end of his term whereas, Auba would be 33-years old; a healthy age to let them move on. Additionally, having them under a longer contract also implies better resale value.
