According to reports, Arsenal are looking to sign a central midfielder this summer and have chosen Marcel Sabitzer of RB Leipzig and Lyon’s Bruno Guimaraes as the possible options.
Arsenal seem to have their fingers in a lot of potential transfer pies, but none of them looks ready to serve or fit to eat. Buendia wouldn’t sign, Odegaard looks like a no go (again), Neves turned his attentions elsewhere, and Aouar was high on the list but then slipped down behind Maddison.
It’s now being said that Edu and Arteta are looking at two of their previous considerations Bruno Guimaraes and Marcel Sabitzer. Both may not instantly increase the pulse rate, but they are an upgrade on what we had last season and what we have available for this campaign.
Guimaraes is Brazilian, so at least the club could grease the deal with Edu at the helm and the desire to link up with Gabriel Martinelli and Gabriel Magalhaes, but ignore the obvious, Guimaraes is a 1.86m firecracker that has an eye for a penetrating pass down both flanks or through the middle.

He has a great work ethic, superb anticipation and is blessed with a great engine, something the Arsenal midfield is crying out for. He is very much the intellectual footballer who can quickly assess the situation and you’ll notice that sometimes he delays a pass until the best option is available.
His first touch is good and he can release the ball perfectly into space, but he can also put in a robust challenge when needed which Arteta needs. His current valuation, depending on where you read it, varies between €20-€27m and one could consider him as a legitimate option.
Marcel Sabitzer is an attacking midfielder with a blistering range of passes over distance. Out of the two, Sabitzer would find Aubameyang if he were behind a well-guarded wall or in a hail storm with the light fading.
The Austrian is assertive and shows signs of a leader, barking at others when they don’t live up to expectations. He floats the ball high over a substantial distance to feet or he can deliver a lie precise, defence-splitting pass which breaks the backline wide open.

He’s great on the turn and will attack every opportunity he gets and he can still put a foot in to help out, but that’s not his forte and at £37.8m, he also looks a great option. It appears everyone is cheaper than James Maddison.
It’s just speculation of course, but I’d be interested in either and if I had to choose tomorrow between Sabitzer and Guimaraes, I’d probably go with the Brazillian for his all round game, age (24) and price. No doubt this saga will run right up until the final day of the transfer window because it usually does.
