Arsenal Need to get Brutal in the Transfer Window by Trimming the fat From the Existing Squad

Arsenal, COVID-19, Arsenal youth, Player ratings FA Cup Win

Arsenal have a dreadful record of holding on to players that are predominantly bench-warmers and that are simply not good enough for the Premier League. Arsene Wenger was the worst offender, persisting with players who showed no ability or form whilst ignoring the merits of others who could make a positive contribution.

I’m talking about the likes of Cygan, Diaby, and Senderos, all of which were firmly in the spare parts department and on the other hand, Podolski, Debuchy, and Perez who never really got off the starting grid. Wenger it turns out was a fickle mistress and at times, clumsy with money.

After the Covid-19 pandemic, Arsenal have every reason to finally get rid of the deadwood and bloodsuckers that have been stealing their wages without making the grade.

Harsh? Hell no. Like many of you, I’m sick of Arsenal not buying quality players and packing out the squad with average players who fritter away the club’s cash, when they should be earning a crust at Bristol City or some forgotten part of Scotland, not play in the Premier League.

Mikel Arteta needs to trim, even though, he’s resources are limited and needs to promote from the academy. It’s plain and simple really if there are players that can’t push on or are, for whatever reason, unable to give their best, they need to go.

It’s time for the brave and the bold and Mikel Arteta needs to wield the axe. The revolution is at Arsenal is underway and I can’t see the bones of the team being the same within two seasons.

The problem is that a great number of those that need to go have depreciated in value due to their continuous poor form. There are potentially one or two others that might need to go for other reasons including attitude and the inability to settle but Arteta needs to cut the slack over the next two transfer windows.

It may even be a case of one way traffic to a degree, with more players going out than coming in but, quality is always preferable to quantity. We’ve had enough of that in the past.
