No room for Houssem Aouar in the Arteta Rebuild; Why Arsenal Need to Abandon Their Pursuit for Aouar

Houssem Aouar Arsenal

I’m not sure if Arsenal are thinking clearly and whether the rumours are true that they have placed or have considered placing a bid for Lyon’s Houssem Aouar. The Gunners were said to be extremely and actively interested in the midfield playmaker last season but the player was, as we understand it, less inclined to move to North London.

As a result, I wouldn’t be looking in his direction to rekindle any interest in a player who was reluctant to move last time around. Currently, his price is alleged to be around £20m, which is a hefty discount for someone who was said to command a fee of £54m last season.

However, I’d be more inclined to close the door on any deal and pursue other targets including Marcel Sabitzer, Yves Bissouma, Florian Neuhaus, Ruben Neves, Ryan Gravenberch and James Maddison. The Gunners are in no position to add another halfhearted egotist to the squad who puts the wages before their footballing performances.

Friends who watch French football regularly haven’t been overly impressed by his contributions at Lyon with more than one saying they “couldn’t understand what all the fuss was about” and that his performances were “ordinary” at times. Another good reason for Arsenal to abandon their pursuit for Aouar.

I’ve always been of the mind that when the door closes, everyone moves on and I would be quite livid if Edu decides to forgive and forget instead of investing his time on targets that want to play for the badge. I’m being slightly cynical, but today’s players are inclined to be more interested in the money and individual glory than the club that employs them.

We’ve been fortunate to have had players that poured their heart out onto the pitch but more recently, we’ve acquired those that plod from one paycheque to the next. No more! Find players that are willing to invest their talent in the club to become legends.

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
