Arsenal Need to Act Fast, Get Partey Now And Stop Messing Around Like They Usually do

Thomas Partey, Thomas Partey Arsenal

If Arsenal wants to change their fortunes and are serious about challenging for all the top honours again, they need to dump their usual cautious and guarded approach and spend on a player that will make a massive difference to their chances of success. Thomas Partey is that player and to be honest if Arsenal doesn’t secure his services they can look forward to more trial and error performances as they wait for their academy talent to come of age.

The board and owner need to stop looking at balance sheets and start looking at trophies. The player isn’t massively expensive with a reported fee of £44.8m and from what I’m hearing, any deal will not include Alexandre Lacazette in a swap deal.

Kroenke has made a massive commitment to his American sports teams in terms of loans and he now needs to do the same with his top Premier League asset. There are several things that the Arsenal hierarchy should consider before the transfer window opens.

The club has to stop pretending that’s it’s held in the same regard it was years ago and that its name is enough to attract players. It needs to pay the money usually associated with the top talent on the world stage and stop conducting their business as if they run a small corner shop at the low end of the market.

They need to stop the blustering and posturing like the insulting move for Luis Suarez in 2014 when they tried to snatch the Uruguayan by offering £40million plus one pound. A new low, even for Arsenal. That derisory offer for the best striker in the Premier League was a fiasco and damaged Arsenal’s reputation as a credible club.

Football as a business has changed massively and to generate the necessary funds, they need to remain in contention at the top level. Arsenal needs to feature regularly in the Premier League and Champions League because, without them, a move to North London becomes much less attractive.

So much has been made of their wage structure, but then they blew £350,000 per week on Ozil and more recently, £120,000 per week for Luiz (33). In short, they need to pay up and waste less. I don’t mean that salaries should go through the roof because if Arsenal hadn’t paid over the odds for a group of completely average players, the transfer for Thomas Partey would be very affordable.

Raul Sanllehi is on trial this summer and the failure to put Arsenal back where they belong should cost him his job. Since David Dein’s departure, the club have lacked direction and genuine football savvy.

Raul! Get real or get out!

Anti Kroenke , anti Gazidis but always a gooner. Still wishes he could watch from the stands at the Highbury library.
