Arsenal, along with Fulham are currently looking at the young English Newcastle goalkeeper, Freddie Woodman.
The young goalkeeper, who refused an offer from his current club and is looking to run down his contract, has caught the eye of the new Arsenal Boss, Unai Emery, who doesn’t want to let this free transfer opportunity go away.
The shot-stopper made a name for himself as the number one for England’s U-20 World Cup winning squad in 2017, earning the Golden Glove award for the best goalkeeper of the tournament and also saving a penalty in the final.
Signed by Newcastle United as a youngster, Freddie Woodman, a Croydon-native has been loaned out on several occasions during his career, including Hartlepool, Crawley, Kilmarnock, and Aberdeen that have seen the 21-year-old receive valuable playing time.
As reported by Chronicle live, it was then decided that Freddie Woodman would be unable to go out on loan for the first half of the season with Woodman left in the second string to ply his trade despite his status as an England Under-21 player these days.
Speaking to Chronicle Live earlier this season, Freddie Woodman said:
“I’ve always said I enjoy playing football so whatever level it is, I am going to enjoy it. I don’t have to play for the Under-23s – I choose to play. I just want to get the best out of a bad situation.”
Scouts from Arsenal and Fulham have been at reserves games to watch the 21-year-old goalkeeper in action this season as the news got out that the youngster started playing with the Newcastle United’s reserve team.
Although Arsenal does look overcrowded for goalkeepers at the moment, with none of the newcomers getting any regular playtime including Bernd Leno, the fact that Arsenal is still considering bringing another young and talented goalkeeper into the squad, that too for free is an offer that Unai is keen on getting.
